Charleston Angel Partners
The Charleston Angel Partners is an angel investment group established on 2003 in Charleston, South Carolina. An organization of individuals who are experts in business, they are joined together in working towards a common goal of facilitating the economic advancement of the local region by providing funds and guidance to companies in early stage of progress. Through the various expertise, skills and knowledge of its member investors, they also target to achieve the highest level of financial returns from their investments. The group also advocates the development of leadership organizations for both active and retired business enthusiasts.

Membership to the Charleston Angel Partners is open to accredited investors in accordance to the guidelines and rules of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States. Accredited investors are those whose annual individual or joint income is at least $1 million, or whose individual income is at least $200,000 or joint income is at least $300,000. An applicant member should have relevant experience and expertise in business. Members are also expected to participate in the groups activities and events, such as regular meetings and due diligence processes. An annual membership fee of $1,250 is also required. Interested applicants should contact the executive administrator to attend one of the group's meetings because meetings are by invitational only.

The Charleston Angel Investors amount of investment may vary and is in a case-to-case basis. But usually, the group invests around $200,000 to $400,000. The group's investments are typically on companies of any industry that are on the start-up stage and has a high potential for growth. A company should be capable to achieve $50 million worth in the next five years and about five to ten times amount of return of investments. To attain these, a company should have a very strong management team and a highly viable business plan. Interested companies should submit a six to eight-page executive summary and a 20-minute slide presentation to the group administrator via electronic mail. Upon evaluation, the administrator may contact the company for further information. After evaluation, the company will be invited to perform a business presentation to the entire investment group members followed by a due diligence process. After which, the final investment decision shall be made. The duration of the screening process takes about eleven weeks.

To date, the Charleston Angel Partners has a total of 84 active and retired member investors. In a given year, the group reviews and evaluates an average of thirty companies and typically around seven approved investments. Each member investor's average total investment in a year is around $50,000. The group's portfolio of investments currently includes about eleven companies. Among these companies are DigitalDerm, Inc., Gentris, Affinergy, Advanced Liquid Logic, NuTech, JumpStart, Bright View Technologies, Alveolus and Unitrends. Charleston Angel Partners is a member of the Southeast Angels and the Angel Capital Association.
