Connecticut Innovations provides strategic capital and operational insight to push the frontiers of high-tech industries such as energy, biotechnology, information technology, and photonics.
Over the years, CI has helped over 100 emerging companies research, develop, and market new products and services. This activity has attracted over $1 billion dollars in additional investments from private equity providers. CI has brought the State of Connecticut over $510 million in Gross State Profit and over 5,000 additional job-years.
CI was created by the Connecticut Legislature in 1989. Since 1995, returns from its own prudent investments - not state money - have supported operations and new, forward-thinking funding programs.
Douglas joined Connecticut Innovations in 2011 and is responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, structuring and negotiating new and follow-on investments, and monitoring portfolio companies. Douglas is a board observer for Affinimark Technologies, Discover Video, Engage121, etouches, Continuity Control and LiveClips. In addition, following the investments by CI’s Pre-Seed Fund, Douglas monitors and advises DomaniCom, Notifyi and Raditaz.
Douglas came to CI with extensive experience in business development and management consulting. Most recently, Douglas founded a consulting firm to help early-stage companies identify and assess growth opportunities, generate sustainable revenue, and manage intellectual property. Previously, as a senior consultant at ipCapital Group, Douglas provided strategic intellectual property advisory services to organizations in the telecommunications, information technology, clean technology, and medical device industries. In addition, he advised investors in intellectual property-based businesses, representing over $250M in invested capital.
Douglas began his career in the telecommunications industry and has worked for a manufacturer of infrastructure equipment, a global network operator, and a Goldman Sachs funded startup. He was responsible for business development efforts in many international markets including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
