Trinity Ventures is a boutique early stage venture firm with an unwavering dedication to our entrepreneurs. We do not operate global mega funds. We don’t have offices in China (or anywhere else outside Silicon Valley, for that matter). We are company builders, not company flippers.
Here’s who we are: smart, focused, passionate professionals deeply engaged with the entrepreneurs we work with to build lasting companies. We were founded in 1986 by two entrepreneurs and an investment professional who saw the opportunity for a different approach to venture capital — an approach long on collaboration, short on hierarchy, and with none of the “our way or the highway” mentality.
From the outset, we chose to focus on both consumer and technology startups, and building name-brand companies that continue to thrive. Through this foundation of expertise from years of investing, we are proud that we are respected in our industry for being smart and also committed in our investment philosophy, never one to follow the trend. We are committed to staying true to our founding philosophy—be collaborative, respect entrepreneurs, and invest for the long haul. Company building is long, hard work, but the rewards clearly eclipse the effort.
Our focus is on early stage companies in specific technology categories. We’ve intentionally stayed at a size that enables us to maintain close ties among our team and those of our portfolio companies. (After all, we’re all working toward the same goals.) What this means is that, of necessity, we must limit the number of deals we do. To a person, Trinity is financially, intellectually and emotionally committed to the success of our portfolio companies. We want to have the bandwidth to deliver this commitment on every venture we fund.
We look for opportunities to go the distance—ideally, with the team who dreamed up the technology and has spent many a sleepless night since then figuring out where to go next. Because, at the end of the day, venture capital is a business built on relationships. And like any relationship, the best ones are equal parts leaps of faith, open communication and hard work. We’re a VC team dedicated mind, heart and soul to building companies around our entrepreneurs’ vision and hard work.
