An experienced venture investor, John Babcock has been a partner at Rustic Canyon Partners since the firm's formation in 1999. John Babcock brings over 15 years of technology industry experience to both the firm and our portfolio companies. He focuses on investment opportunities in clean technology, technology-enabled services, outsourcing and advanced construction materials. Before the founding of Rustic Canyon, John was general manager of online real estate at the Los Angeles Times. Previously, John founded the Delta Group, a technology consulting firm. Intel, Compaq Computer and Home Savings of America are among the companies that he has advised. John began his career as a software programmer.
John received his B.A. from Duke University and his M.B.A. from the Anderson School at UCLA.

Cyrano Sciences was acquired by Smiths Group, PLC [LSE: SMIN] in 2003. Founded in 1997, Cyrano Sciences is a material sciences company that designs and manufactures products that quantify and digitize the chemical composition of a vapor. Put simply, they can smell. The products are based on Cyrano’s proprietary sensor array technology, developed at Caltech, which is already covered by thirteen issued patents with 52 patent applications pending. Their products provide customers with precise and mobile vapor sensing capabilities at the point of need. Cyrano’s first commercially available product is the electronic nose (the C320) and its NoseChips™. In addition Cyrano is leveraging its connectivity and data analysis technologies to provide an integrated end-to-end software solution. |

FoodLink Agribuys merged with Foodconnex Worldwide in 2005 to create FoodLink Online. They provide supply chain management software for produce and other food and perishable products, providing software and other support to integrate the purchasing and logistics function of producers and purchasers. The company is one of several in the field, but is the first to process transactions and the only company covering the full range of products purchased by large food service and grocery companies. |
