The DreamIt Managing Partners have been investing in early stage companies since they sold the companies they started. In the last few years we have become enthusiastic about how quickly and inexpensively great companies can be launched. At the same time we have seen some very talented people with great ideas struggle to pull the pieces together and get over the startup hump. With the help and support of entrepreneurs, technologists, prominent law and accounting firms, angel investor groups and venture capital firms, DreamIt Ventures was born.
Our goal at DreamIt is simple: Help great people with great ideas build great companies.
We're searching for bright, energetic people with great ideas. We will supply the support needed to build the next great company. More specifically, we will supply:
* Seed Funding
* A Collaborative work space
* Mentors and Advisors who have "been there and done it" before
* Donated legal, accounting and administrative help to form your company properly
* Introductions to funding sources (including Angel Investors, Venture Capitalists, private investors and public sources of funding)
If you have a great idea and want to build a great company submit an Innovator Application. If we like your idea, you will be invited to participate in DreamIt, a 3-month program that runs from late May through late August. During that time you will receive seed funding, mentoring, education and finally on Funding Day, a chance to present to VCs, private investors and other funding sources.
In some cases Innovators may have great technical knowledge but might like to work with someone with great business skills. Accordingly, we also accept Strategist Applications -- from people with strong business skills who are interested in working fulltime during the summer with a DreamIt Company. In addition we are now also accepting applications from Hackers - folks with great programming skills who may want to join one of our teams for the summer or longer.
Steve Barsh is an accomplished CEO, entrepreneur, and senior executive whose expertise is leading world-class teams and companies to deliver superior results. With over 20 years of experience, Steve has the ability to both determine a winning strategic direction and drive its execution. His life-long passion is working with technology companies where he is able to understand quickly the technical underpinnings and the market strategy necessary to maximize revenue.
As he was graduating from the University of Michigan, Steve founded and led a software and consulting company. He built it into an industry leader and after maintaining a 60% CAGR for 7 years, he sold it to MCI for 8x revenue. Following that, Steve led an Internet company focusing on the baby boomer space -- iGrandparents.com. In less than a year, iGrandparents became the largest and fastest growing website focused exclusively on baby boomers. At iGrandparents Steve raised over $6 million in financing and grew revenue at 25% per quarter while increasing operating expenses only 12% per quarter. Steve also led a U.S. publicly traded Israeli-based software anti-piracy company.
Currently, Steve is a Partner in DreamIt Ventures, a pre-seed stage venture firm that provides aspiring entrepreneurs with funding, services from leading law and accounting firms, mentoring from seasoned entrepreneurs, access to capital, and a creative, rigorous environment to bring innovative business ideas to market. As well, Steve provides acting CxO and consulting services. During 2008, Steve was very fortunate to camp out (think 'entrepreneur in residence') with Josh Kopelman, Chris Fralic, Howard Morgan, and Rob Hayes, at their well-regarded early stage venture capital firm, First Round Capital.
Steve's media appearances have included NBC Nightly News, ABC Nightline, CBS News, CNNfn, CNBC, and a multitude of NBC, ABC, and CBS local affiliates. Steve has testified and spoken on multiple occasions before U.S. Senate and FDA subcommittees.
