Entrepreneurs and ideas are not exclusive to northern California or Boston's Route 128. However, equity capital for seed and early stage high technology companies located in emerging technology areas of the United States is in increasingly limited supply.
International Venture Fund (IVF) was formed by Debra R. Guerin Beresini and D. Kirk B. Westbrook, invencor, inc.'s principals, to serve the needs of capital efficient, high growth companies located in emerging markets, with primary focus on the areas of Arizona, Hawaii, New Mexico and Utah, as well as Silicon Valley. From IVF's headquarters in Silicon Valley and office in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the principals leverage their extensive resources and network to provide value beyond capital to companies that otherwise may be ignored due to geography.
In 2000, the IVF team was expanded to include Richard Harding and Dan Macuga. Affiliated through Santa Fe Venture Partners, they both are active General Partners in execution of IVF's strategy in New Mexico and its other markets.
IVF's team brings an "old fashioned" venture capital approach to its investing, with a team oriented roll-up-your sleeves discipline. Our team has been providing debt and equity financing to early stage companies in the Silicon Valley and throughout the Southwest since the 1980's. Based upon many years of serving our target markets, we are aware of both the challenges and opportunities experienced by entrepreneurs in capitally deficient areas. IVF understands that the infrastructure to support an early stage company might not be fully developed in many emerging growth locations. We work to augment the existing infrastructure and facilitate access to the same resources and services available to Silicon Valley firms for our out-of-state portfolio companies. IVF leverages already established relationships with a focus on capital efficient seed and early stage equity investment opportunities in its primary target markets. IVF also considers investments in the Silicon Valley, as well as in other areas of the United States. Although IVF has a domestic investment focus, it looks for investment opportunities with a global vision.

Debra R. Guerin Beresini is a co-founder and Managing Director of International Venture Fund (IVF). IVF is a Silicon Valley based venture fund focused on seed and early stage emerging growth investment opportunities in the geographic areas of Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah, as well as Silicon Valley. Ms. Guerin Beresini has served as CEO of invencor, inc, manager of IVF, since its inception in April 1997.
Ms. Guerin Beresini previously held senior positions at the seed/technology-transfer venture firm of AR&D Corp., at the venture leasing arm of Ford/US Leasing, as a venture investor at Technology Funding, and as Senior Vice President and Manager of the National Division at Silicon Valley Bank. Ms. Guerin Beresini specializes in life science companies, including TheraTx (IPO in 1994, acquired by Vencor for $550 million in 1997), Systemix (acquired by Sandoz) and Napo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (IPO in 2006, LSE). Ms. Guerin Beresini was on the board of Napo until its recent IPO. Ms. Guerin Beresini speaks at various national conferences on venture capital and technology transfer. She presently sits on the Board of AssistGuide, Inc., San Ramon, CA; the non-profit Hawaii Venture Capital Association and HiBEAM, a Hawaii based business accelerator. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Wayne Brown Institute located in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated summa cum laude from Dominican University and has a certificate in Global Bio from UC Berkeley.
