Sunrock Ventures is a Florida-based venture capital firm that will make
investments in a diversified portfolio of rapidly growing private companies across Florida and the Southeast.
Florida and the Southeast are producing outstanding investment
opportunities; however, there is a severe shortage of venture capital and
venture capital firms in the region. The Southeast comprises approximately 20 percent of the nation’s population, economic output and high tech industry, yet it attracted less than 5 percent of the total venture capital investments in 2006, and just 2.3 percent of the total venture capital in the country is managed by local firms.
Sunrock Ventures intends to change this by focusing its investments on
companies in Florida and the Southeast, where our geographic proximity and depth of experience will enable us to provide the financial support and guidance companies need to succeed.
Sunrock will build a portfolio of 18 to 24 Southeastern companies, balanced across investment stage and industry sector, to produce superior investment returns over the next four years.

a Florida native has been actively involved in the venture capital industry for the past 9 years. Prior to co-founding Sunrock Ventures he had been a General Partner and Managing Director for Crossbow Ventures beginning in 2002. Crossbow Ventures is a venture capital firm with a $170 million under management headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida. Similar to Sunrock, Crossbow is also focused on investing in the Southeast US. Mr. Shaw was the lead partner on a number of deals while at Crossbow and was responsible for a number of the firm most profitable investments. Mr. Shaw was also responsible for generating a large portion of the firm''s total cash exits during his five years with the firm.
Prior to joining Crossbow Ventures, Mr. Shaw was with Centennial Ventures and Prime New Ventures in Austin, Texas from 1998 to 2002. At Prime New Ventures, Mr. Shaw helped invest a $100 million fund with a focus on the communications, media and service industries. Mr. Shaw was then recruited by Centennial Ventures to help open an Austin, Texas office. While Mr. Shaw was with Centennial Ventures, the firm successfully raised their seventh fund which had capital commitments of approximately $400 million. It was at Prime New Ventures and Centennial Ventures that Mr. Shaw received training in the venture capital industry from a group of partners that had all been in the business since 1981.
Mr. Shaw joined Prime New Ventures after completing his MBA degree from Harvard''s Graduate School of Business. Prior to business school, Mr. Shaw started his financial career in 1992 with Deloitte & Touche''s Financial Advisory Services Group where he performed financial analysis and IPO work for clients in a number of industries. While at Deloitte & Touche, Mr. Shaw passed the May 1992 CPA exam where he finished 4th in nation out of 60,000 candidates sitting for the exam.
Mr. Shaw has invested in a number of private companies over his venture capital career. He has also sat on the board of a number of private and public companies including, 411Web Directories, Inc., ACH Processing Inc., ALN Medical Management Inc., Axya Medical Inc., Brainhunter Inc. (a public listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange), Digital Interactive Streams, Inc., InfoDesk Inc., Internet Commerce Corp. (a public company on NASDAQ), Iviewit Holdings, Multicast Media Inc., Oncure Medical Corp., ScriptRx Inc., and X3D Technologies.
