An independent not-for-profit economic development organization, Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/SEP) was established in 1982 to stimulate economic growth through innovation, entrepreneurship and the development and adoption of new technologies. BFTP/SEP, part of a statewide network supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, provides capital and expertise in technology, finance and business that helps entrepreneurs and established businesses overcome challenges and plan for growth. Mark deGrandpre, Ph.D. has over 20 years of experience with innovative business and technology development. Currently at BFTP/SEP, he is responsible for a portfolio of over 30 young physical science companies in the region, and for identifying new investment opportunities. Mark has significantly improved deal flow and enhanced portfolio quality since he joined the team in January of 2006. Previously, Mark was Director of Technology and New Business Development for Polysciences Inc., a privately held specialty materials company headquartered in Warrington, PA. Throughout his career, Mark has also worked for Rohm and Haas Company as Director of Corporate Development: Licensing, as well as numerous other positions within the company and in joint ventures.

InfraScan, Inc. has developed a patented, hand-held diagnostic imaging device based on a PDA platform to rapidly detect bleeding in the brain. An initial field study performed with over 300 patients showed the device to be highly accurate in detecting brain hematomas and as a quick, affordable compliment to CT scanning to improve treatment of patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). |
