Founded in 1997, PA Early Stage Partners is an active and experienced venture capital fund that seeks portfolio companies located in the corridor from New York to Washington, D.C., with a primary focus on companies located in Pennsylvania. PA Early Stage invests in early stage Technology and Life Sciences companies, typically as a lead or co-lead investor. PA Early Stage currently has approximately 30 active portfolio companies and more than $235 million under management across three venture funds.

Mr. Schmitt joined PA Early Stage as a Managing Director in 1999. A former Chief Executive of three different life sciences and healthcare companies, Mr. Schmitt brings extensive operating experience to the fund. In addition, he has raised in excess of $100 million through private placements, an initial public stock offering, joint ventures and corporate partnerships.
Previously, Mr. Schmitt was Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Chrysalis International Corporation (Nasdaq: CRLS). Chrysalis was formed in 1996 through the merger of DNX Corporation and BioClin International. Chrysalis was a leading supplier of pre-clinical and clinical drug development services, including the utilization of transgenic animal science technologies to identify and validate new human genetic targets of disease emerging from worldwide genomic initiatives. Chrysalis’ clients included over 250 biotech and pharmaceutical industry companies in 26 countries. In April 1999, Chrysalis was merged with Phoenix International, Inc. (Nasdaq: PHXI).

Furthermore, Haley is uniquely able to provide agile BPM that satisfies the requirements of real-time enterprises. |

Neuronyx Neuronyx is focused on neurological diseases and disorders. With a multi-faceted approach to address brain diseases, Neuronyx balances the significant but long-term promise of stem cell and gene-based therapies with the more conventional development time and risk of both scientific and regulatory nature of small molecule therapies. Rather than utilizing stem cells derived from embryonic and fetal sources, Neuronyx has developed a proprietary process for isolating and expanding adult bone marrow stem cells to provide extremely large, homogenous populations with desirable therapeutic characteristics. |

LearnNow LearnNow is a for-profit education management organization (“EMO”) based in New York City. LearnNow holds contracts to serve over 6,000 students in the District of Columbia, and over 3,000 students in Minnesota. In March 2001, LearnNow won a very important contract representing a total of 2,350 students in the Chester, Pennsylvania Upland School District. Shortly thereafter, in July 2001, Edison Schools (Nasdaq:EDSN) acquired LearnNow in a stock transaction valued at approximately $30 million. |
