Newlight Associates focuses on investments in the information technology industry and we have completed transactions across a broad range of segments and development stages within this industry. Since we play an active role in most of our portfolio companies, an important element of our strategy is to concentrate our resources on those segments of information technology where one or more members of our investment team has substantial experience. We are most interested in the following areas: Software, Specialty semiconductors, Internet infrastructure, Communications, Business-to-business e-commerce.
In our early stage investments, Newlight Associates targets companies where we are usually the lead investor in a portfolio company's first "professional" or institutional financing. We prefer to invest in early stage companies on the East Coast of the United States. While we generally lead these investments, we will also consider co-investing with others. In almost all cases, a company will have a developed product or service and have generated some revenue at the time of Newlight's investment. Our target first-round investment size is between $1 million and $4 million. We have the ability to structure and execute much larger financings through syndicates that may consist of our limited partners and other venture firms.
