    Brian Ascher, Senior Principal, Venrock Associates Brian Ascher, Senior Principal, Venrock Associates

    Brian Ascher joined Venrock Associates in 1998 as a Kauffman Fellow. He is now a Senior Principal in Venrock's Menlo Park office and focuses on software and information technology investments. Brian is a Director of Atrenta, Datallegro, RelayHealth, T3Ci, Unicru, Vocera Communications, and Winery Exchange. Prior to Venrock, Brian was Senior Product Manager for Intuit's Quicken.com website and earlier, Product Manager for Quicken for Windows. Previous to his work with Intuit, Brian worked as a Strategy Consultant at Monitor Company where he advised clients worldwide on issues of management and strategy.

    Brian received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

    David Adams is a managing director of Rocket Ventures, and serves on the Boards of eBoomerang, Financial Interactive, and Rappore Technologies.

    Previously, David co-founded Greenfield Technology Ventures, a small seed fund and venture catalyst firm focused on enterprise software companies, where he specialized in investing in and providing interim management assistance to seed stage companies.

    David offers entrepreneurs deep skills in identifying products that solve business problems, and guiding companies in the best path to sell solutions that incorporate them. David has extensive software development, operations management, and enterprise technical architecture experience.

    David was previously a senior technology manager with Andersen Consulting’s (Accenture’s) strategic technology practices in Chicago and Sophia Antipolis, France, where he was a leader in managing cutting-edge enterprise software projects, rapidly expanding Accenture’s capabilities in implementing large-scale Internet architectures.

    David founded and serves as President of the Angel Breakfast Club, and in a member of the Advisory Board of the University of California at Santa Cruz Economics Department. He acquired a BA from the University of Chicago, where he played varsity soccer and was conference champion in Javelin.

    David focuses on investments in business automation, outsourcing, operations management, wireless, and security.

    Alex has over 20 years' experience in computer systems and software sales, marketing, engineering and general management. He began his career in the UK at two software startups, was AT&T's European Sales Manager for its UNIX products and then started and managed Sun's marketing function in Europe. He held a number of management positions at Sun in the US, including VP Markets & Product Strategy.

    After general management positions at Grass Valley Group (Tektronix) he was VP Sales & Marketing at Be. More recently, he was VP Marketing at Vitria Technology and CEO of Katmango.

    Kai Tse, Principal, GKM Ventures Kai Tse, Principal, GKM Ventures

    Mr. Tse is a Principal of GKM Ventures. Prior to joining GKM, Mr. Tse spent 4 years at Osprey Ventures where his investments included Netbotz, Atrua and Appshop, among others. Previously, Mr. Tse worked in business development and operations at Vcapital.com, a private equity exchange startup, where he was responsible for sourcing and analyzing venture capital investment opportunities and business development opportunities with venture capitalists, service providers and investors. He was a senior analyst in Paribas' Merchant Banking practice after beginning his career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in financial advisory consulting. Mr. Tse graduated with Honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He presently is earning his MBA at UC Berkeley.

    Alexander J. Rhea has been a private equity investor since 1993. In late 1999, he co-founded Pyramid Technology Ventures, a $123 million transatlantic venture capital fund with offices in both San Francisco and Paris. Today PTV is recognized both in Silicon Valley and in Europe as a premier investor having lead rounds in successful companies such as Ziprealty, Adomos, Pentasafe, and Zantaz. Prior to co-founding PTV, Mr. Rhea was an Investment Director at Part’Com (now Iris Capital), since December 1995. At Part’Com, Mr. Rhea had been primarily responsible for putting together a portfolio of US investments. In the process he distinguished himself by being an early investor in such private companies as Phone.com, Interwave, Signalsoft and Be. Mr. Rhea entered the venture capital business in 1993 when he had been hired by the GET Fund (a private equity fund based in New York) to serve as an interim CEO for Aquametrics, an ailing company at the time. The company served as a platform on which to do a leverage build-up where a total of 8 private companies where acquired in a span of 14 months. Aquametrics was then sold to a US subsidiary of the Suez group. From 1991 to 1993, Mr. Rhea served as the President of the US subsidiary of LaborBirkmayer, an Austrian medical group that had diversified in software and computer solution providing in the medical field. Mr. Rhea started his first company, AJR Consulting, while still in college in 1986. Mr. Rhea holds both a BS in Computer/Electrical engineering from Catholic University (Washington, DC) and an MBA from HEC School of Management (Jouy-en-Josas, France).

    Peter Wolken joined Diamondhead Ventures in June 2000. Peter has been a successful venture capitalist for more than 25 years. His long and successful venture capital and operating experience enables him to quickly evaluate emerging information technologies.

    Prior to joining Diamondhead Ventures as a Special Limited Partner, Peter founded (1982) and was a General Partner at Associated Venture Investors (AVI), which managed $140M across three funds. AVI specialized in seed and early-stage investments in information technology companies positioned for high growth. AVI's financial performance ranks among the highest in the venture capital industry.

    While at AVI, Peter invested in and helped build many successful start-ups, including Extreme Networks (one of 1999's top performing IPOs), PLX Technology, Inverse Network Technology (acquired by Visual Networks), Grand Junction Networks (acquired by Cisco Systems), Full Time Software (acquired by Legato Systems), AccelGraphics (acquired by Evans & Sutherland) and Network Peripherals (one of 1994's top performing IPOs).

    Prior to AVI, Peter was a General Partner at Page Mill Partners, which was a seed and early-round investor in several successful companies, including Software Publishing Corporation, 3Com Corporation, Apple Computer and ASK Computer Systems.

    An engineer by training, Peter co-founded and was VP of Sales at Cobilt, a semiconductor equipment firm that later merged into Computervision Corporation. Peter has more than twenty years of operating experience working in the electronics industry for RCA, General Electric, Beckman Instruments, Electroglas and Etec, which was acquired by Applied Materials.

    Peter received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters degree in International Marketing from Thunderbird ­ The Garvin School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona.

    Bret Wilbur, Regional Sales Consultant, Trinet Bret Wilbur, Regional Sales Consultant, Trinet

    Bret Wilbur has been in the HR Outsourcing business since 1998 in sales, sales management, and marketing roles. At TriNet he is a Regional Sales Consultant focused on providing his expertise to technology and professional services companies in the greater Bay Area. Prior to TriNet, Bret was with Administaff and Adecco. He is also a licensed benefits broker.

    Bret's business interests include developing return on investment models for Outsourcing services, building channel opportunities, and speaking to business owners about outsourcing services. Bret is also a speaker/instructor with the Small Business Administration.

    Bret received his B.S. in English from Southern Oregon University. He has written two unpublished novels, enjoys travel, and has eaten Chinese food in 17 countries.
