    Douglas Petillo, Principal, leads Edison's investment team in Pennsylvania as well as the firm's investment activities in the Customer Relationship Management and Supply Chain sectors. He focuses on identifying and evaluating new investment opportunities and advises portfolio management with respect to business planning, strategy, and development.

    Doug is also a frequent speaker in regional venture capital and entrepreneurial forums and is active in the organization of the prominent regional events, including Mid Atlantic Venture Conference, 3 Rivers Venture Fair, and Early Stage East.

    Doug has been investing venture capital in early and expansion-stage technology companies for 6 years. Previously, he was in Product Marketing at Dialogic (Intel) where he led the development of a new business unit. In addition, he worked as a consultant for a small venture services firm and founded a successful healthcare services company. Earlier in his career, he led numerous process redesign and quality improvement initiatives for units of United Technologies Corporation and AlliedSignal (Honeywell).

    Doug's perspective as an entrepreneur and his broad operational and management background across such functional areas as product marketing, corporate finance, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and program management have been valued by the management of the portfolio companies with which he has been involved.

    Doug lives with his wife Flora and two daughters in Delaware County, PA.

    Ellen Sandles, President, brings over ten years of increasingly successful sales and marketing expertise to the capital raising process having worked within various start-up, high-tech divisions of AT&T Corporation, Harris Corporation and Commerce Clearing House.

    Ms. Sandles has frequently lectured on Business Angel Financing, and was most recently heard at the Harvard Club, the New York City Venture Capital Conference, the Williams Club, the NYU Entrepreneurship Conference as well as the IBC Conference on Roll-ups and Mergers. She has been interviewed on numerous business programs including New Jersey Business News, the Ron Thomas Entrepreneur Forum and Bloomberg Small Business.

    Ms. Sandles effectively uses her marketing skills to cultivate additional angel investors, and assist entrepreneurs in effectively marketing their company for the capital raising process. This includes advisory assistance with business plans; implementation of marketing strategies to find well-matched, appropriate investors; creation of effective, compelling presentations, and a review of important business issues including the management team, the marketing strategy, the competition and the valuation of the venture.

    Several clients of Ms. Sandles — a security software company, an oncology management firm, two Internet companies, and a consumer marketing organization — raised a portion of their initial funding through her angels.

    Philip Eliot, Vice President, Core Capital Partners Philip Eliot, Vice President, Core Capital Partners

    Mr. Eliot joined Core in 2002 and focuses on enterprise applications and internet infrastructure companies. Prior to joining Core Capital, Mr. Eliot worked at FBR Technology Venture Partners, a $200 million early stage venture capital fund that focused on enterprise application and software companies in the mid-Atlantic region. There, he assisted FBRTVP's portfolio companies in strategy and operations decisions, as well as evaluating new investment opportunities for the fund.

    Before joining FBRTVP, Mr. Eliot was a consultant at Dean & Company, where he worked in the telecommunications and utilities industries, focusing on strategy and business plan development for companies entering the deregulated local telephony and electric power markets. In addition, Mr. Eliot worked with Dean & Company's growing private equity practice in conjunction with Bessemer Holdings, a $2 billion investment fund, evaluating investment targets in both the United States and Germany. Mr. Eliot received a B.A. in Physics with Honors from Harvard University.

    Sidney Williams, Angel Investor Sidney Williams, Angel Investor

    Sidney is a both an Angel Investor and Vice President of the New Markets Growth Fund. Prior to joining the New Markets Growth Fund, Sidney was the co-founder and Managing Partner at AXIA Partners, a venture development firm in New York, NY that raised more than $50 million in private capital for early-stage companies and assisted more than 200 companies with business plan development and equity valuation. Sidney has experienced first-hand many of the technical and business issues faced by emerging firms: identification of the market opportunity, technology validation, and formulation and execution of a business model, all within severe time and resource constraints. Both as a founder of AXIA and as an Investment Banker at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, he is intimately familiar with the issues entrepreneurs face in bringing new technologies into existing as well as unrecognized markets.

    Prior to entering the field of venture capital, Sidney was an associate at Merrill Lynch & Company, Inc.’s Telecommunications, Media and Technology Group in New York. While at Merrill Lynch, he was involved in initial public offerings, the privatization of a state-owned telephone company, and high-yield financing. His work included analyzing M&A opportunities and developing computerized models for use in the valuation and strategic analysis of companies. Sidney has also held positions at Goldman, Sachs & Company and Morgan Stanley & Company in New York, the United States Senate Banking Committee and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

    He has addressed many national and regional conferences, conventions and workshops as well as taught a Graduate Mergers & Acquisitions course at Seton Hall University. Sidney holds a M.B.A. degree from The Wharton School of Business, with a concentration in entrepreneurship and finance and a B.A. degree in finance from the Howard University School of Business. He has served as a member of the Board of Education in East Orange, New Jersey, Vice President of Urban Bankers Coalition – New York Chapter, the Black MBA Association and the Delta Sigma Pi international business fraternity.

    Mr. Winters joined PA Early Stage in April 2000. He is a licensed attorney in Pennsylvania and has practiced corporate law for over nine years. From 1994 to 1996, he worked as an associate in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department of Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy, New York. While at Milbank, Mr. Winters worked on a variety of large corporate transactions, including public offerings of debt and equity, mergers, acquisitions, tender offers and proxy fights.

    From 1996 to April 2000, he worked as an associate in the Business and Finance Department of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, Philadelphia. While at Morgan, Lewis, Mr. Winters gained substantial experience in public offerings, mergers and acquisitions and the representation of venture capital funds. He was the lead associate on several large merger transactions, including the merger of AANetcom with PMC-Sierra, the merger of Morecom with Liberate, the merger of Safeskin with Kimberly Clark and the merger of CMAC with Amerin. Mr. Winters also represented Rohm and Haas with respect to a 144A private placement of $2 billion in debt in June 1999, Cephalon, Inc. with respect to a private placement of $125 million of equity in August 1999, Esperion Therapeutics with respect to the filing of its initial public offering in February 2000, and VerticalNet with respect to Microsoft's $100 million investment in April 2000.

    Mr. Winters is responsible for all legal-related functions at PA Early Stage, including document production and review, due diligence, deal structuring and exit strategies. He is currently on the Boards of Directors of BIAP Systems, Microplate Automation, and Maxwell Systems, and is an observer to the Board of Directors of Circadiant Systems. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Young Scholars Charter School. Mr. Winters holds a BA degree from Rutgers College and a JD degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.

    Laura Lukaczyk is the Founder and Managing General Partner of Avansis Ventures, LLC. Avansis has invested in Cognio, Covega, Exent, iPhotonics (NYSE: SLR), Trust Digital, and Tucana Technologies Inc. Laura has over fifteen years of entrepreneurial and venture capital experience. She has participated in the startup of successful companies, and in all aspects of their growth and financing – both from the investing and operating sides of the business. Laura has a first hand understanding of the motivations and challenges experienced by new companies and their founders. Laura currently serves on the board of Tucana Technologies Inc. and Exent Technologies Ltd.

    Prior to Avansis, Laura was a consultant for New Enterprise Associates ("NEA") in its Reston, Virginia office. At NEA she participated in investing nearly $85 million in companies such as DataCore, Exent, TeleGea and WNP (acquired by Nextlink).

    Prior to NEA, she was the founding CFO at Denwa Communications and previous to this, the Director of Sales at International Communications Corp. ("ICC"), which grew to $100 million in annualized revenues within 14 months. Laura’s prior investment experience includes working as a manager of private equity placements for Multifinance Holding Corp., a family fund with $100 million under management. Her prior technical experience includes semiconductor engineering and manufacturing for the Delco Electronics Division of General Motors.

    Laura is co-chair of the Centennial Celebration for the Chemical Engineering School of the University of Wisconsin. Laura also serves on the Incubator Advisory Board of the Reston Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the NVTC Private Equity Committee. She received her MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School and her BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Laura serves as a member of the Technical Advisory Board at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Engineering School.
