John Aplin, Managing General Partner, CID Equity Partners
Mr. Aplin is Managing General Partner of CID Equity Partners, a Midwest- focused venture capital firm. CID was founded in 1981 and has managed over $430 million in mezzanine and equity funds. CID Equity
Partners has extensive experience in industrial technologies, life sciences,
health care, and general manufacturing. CID's limited partners include the
leading corporate, banking and insurance organizations in the Midwest. CID
provides capital for early-stage, expansion, and buy-out funding and focuses
its investment in Midwest companies.
Mr. Aplin has served on the Board of Acordia, Inc., a NYSE-traded insurance
brokerage company, the Victor Oolitic Stone Company, Appriss, Inc., Bohdan
Automation, Inc., Endocyte, Everest Biomedical Instruments, Golden Stream
Quality Foods, Inc., Integral Technologies, Inc., Megan Health, Inc., Menu Magic, Inc., Open Port Technology, Propane Continental, Inc., Reliable
Automotive, Stereotaxis, Inc., and the Varis Corporation. Prior to joining
CID, Mr. Aplin was Chief Executive Officer of The Fuller Brush Company, an
85-year-old consumer products business. As President of two investment banking firms, Mr. Aplin has managed over 75 investment projects and has participated in merger and acquisition transactions involving Beatrice Inc., Sara Lee Company, ARCO, DST, Inc. and Century Oils Limited, Plc.
Mr. Aplin is a "Certified Management Consultant" and has led strategic
planning and organizational change projects in dozens of public corporations
and not-for-profit organizations. Eli Lilly and Company, Marathon Oil Company, ATT, United Way of America, Borg-Warner and the Farm Bureau Companies of Indiana were among his clients.
Mr. Aplin served on the faculty of the Graduate School of Business at Indiana University in Bloomington (1974-1984). He was a tenured professor of management, and Chairperson of the Master of Business Administration program. Mr. Aplin has been instrumental in establishing graduate business programs in China (P.R.C.), the Netherlands, France and Eastern Europe. As a faculty member at Indiana University, he received MBA Teaching Excellence awards for six consecutive years and in 1982 he received the prestigious AMOCO Foundation Award for Outstanding Teaching.
Mr. Aplin's research and ideas have been presented in over 40 articles published in a variety of journals, including The Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, The Business Quarterly, Personnel Psychology, and Business Horizons. He is also the co-author of a college-level textbook entitled "Management."
Originally from a farming community in Iowa, Mr. Aplin obtained his bachelor's degree from Drake University (1967) and his graduate degrees in business administration from the University of Iowa, Iowa City (M.A. - 1969; Ph.D. - 1975). He served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Flight Officer and was recognized as a "Distinguished Naval Graduate."
