Wes is an experienced investor and advisor, specializing in investing in founders from the intelligence, research, and military communities. Wes graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and received his MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. As an Advisor to DataTribe, a DC-based startup studio, Wes also assists founders building cybersecurity, analytics, and big data companies. Prior to DataTribe, Wes led enterprise implementation, account management and tech support at LiveSafe, a venture-backed mobile technology, and SaaS company. Wes is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he flew naval helicopters for almost 12 years. Based in the Washington D.C. area, Wes focuses on identifying founders who are creating over the horizon technologies.

Graduating with honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a double major in economics and pre-med from the University of Delaware; John Mazarakis is a seasoned entrepreneur and active angel investor with an affinity for corporate evaluations. Analytical in nature with a passion for business and creative thinking, John began his career in small business. He quickly proved his strong business acumen by steering his business to success, growing a small company to $55,000,000 dollars without any outside funding. John Mazarakisí passion for the startup world emerged early on in his career. He has invested in a multitude of projects and several small companies both using debt and equity. He actively participated and won the Global New Venture Challenge along side the TAINA team in 2017 (UChicago accelerator). He currently serves on several boards and he is the CEO of Chicago Atlantic Capital a creative capital provider. He lives with his wife in DC.

Jim Koehr has been growing as an entrepreneur and investor since 2001 when he left life as a corporate IT, Sales, Quality, Planning and Operations Vice President to run without a net. Since then, while representing von Drehle Corporation to supply toilet paper and paper towels to very large retailers nationwide, he has founded or acquired numerous entrepreneurial ventures that have grown into the largest commercial flooring company in central Virginia, real estate investment companies in the Shenandoah Valley, Northern Virginia and Richmond, VA, and two Title and Settlement companies. At 50 years old, Jim completed an Executive MBA in the top 10% of his class at the Darden Graduate School of Business at UVa.

Out of Darden, Jim formed a small venture capital firm called Sorin Angel Capital that focuses on investments in seed-stage companies. Sorin Angel Capital has made 39 investments in 27 different companies and is currently investing for Fund IV. Jim sits on the Boards of three of Sorinís portfolio companies, and he was recently appointed an independent director for Clean Earth, a portfolio company of the public private equity firm Compass Diversified Holdings.

Jim is also very active in school and community. He has coached eight (8) Virginia State Championship high school swimming teams, earned the Outstanding Educator award from the Virginia Governors School for his work as a high school math teacher, and serves (served) as Chairman of three charitable foundations plus the Fauquier Economic Development Authority. Jim is on numerous other school and community and advisory boards.

Married 33 years to his college sweetheart from the University of Notre Dame, Jim and Colleen have 12 children, six of whom (including one son-in-law) are either military officers or training to be military officers in ROTC programs, and two of whom have been deployed into harmís way. Jim and Colleen proudly had their 6th and 7th grandchildren earlier this year.

During her career in Washington, DC, she served as a lobbyist for several industry groups and was appointed as Executive Director of the National Womenís Business Council during the Clinton Administration. She's a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and holds a Masters degree from The George Washington University. A New York native, the DC area has been her home where she currently lives with her husband and the stuff that her two grown children left behind when they moved to California.

James (Jim) W. Hawkins, MBA, PhD, a FOCUS Managing Director, is also CEO of Metaphor Biopharmaceuticals, LLC. Mr. Hawkins has been President and CEO of numerous early stage biotechnology companies and has experience in all major areas of the biopharmaceutical industry including: drug discovery, diagnostics, analytical instrumentation, and specialty reagents and chemicals.

Through the process of building early stage companies, Dr. Hawkins has been involved in the strategic and operational aspects of founding, growing, and exiting emerging businesses. In this regard, he has been involved in a variety of business development and financial transactions including the acquisition and sale of companies and the solicitation of equity and debt financing.

Formerly, Dr. Hawkins was the President and CEO of Synthecell Corporation, a company providing the specialty design and manufacture of nucleic acids and peptides to major international research institutions and pharmaceutical houses for research and clinical diagnostics applications. In conjunction with this company, Dr. Hawkins served as President and CEO of Genetic MediSyn Corporation, a biotechnology company specializing in the discovery of genetically targeted therapeutics based on antisense technology.

Over the past fifteen years, Dr. Hawkins has also served as CEO of three additional companies: Bio-Tech Imaging, Inc., a company focused on cell-based diagnostics and the treatment of HIV infection; Dynamic Biosciences Corp., a scientific instrument company developing a platform technology for the characterization of intermolecular interactions; and Neurotrophic Bioscience, Inc., a drug discovery company involved in the advancement of therapies for neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinsonís disease.
