    Mark Kapczynski has a successful track record as a product and business strategist, at the intersection of technology, data and mobile devices across industries. He currently works with companies to develop new business offerings and enter new markets. These companies are focused on consumer healthcare, fintech, grocery and data & analytics. Mr. Kapczynski advises startup businesses as part of the LA Chamber of Commerce’s Bixel Exchange. He assists technology startups in Southern California to design their businesses, ensure product-market-fit, build out their teams and raise capital to fuel their growth. Mr. Kapczynski as a part-time venture partner at Arrowroot Capital, focuses on investments in the SaaS market in need of growth capital to further develop their businesses. The areas that Mr. Kapczynski addresses are Big Data & Analytics, Financial Services, and Consumer Internet. Mr. Kapczynski additionally serves as an Executive Director of the UCLA Venture Capital Fund, helping to foster innovation connected to the university; including early stage investing, mentoring, and access to Intellectual Property from UCLA patents. Mr. Kapczynski last served as VP of Corporate Development and Strategy for Experian's consumer businesses which include leading consumer brands: Experian, FreeCreditReport.com, and ProtectMyID. Through executing on over 8 M&A transactions, Mr. Kapczynski helped to facilitate Experian’s under-lying growth and profitability. Mr. Kapczynski was also responsible for the roadmap of product features mapping to market and consumer needs. Most of this effort centered on moving Experian from a legacy browser-only offering into a more modern native mobile application and platform. A key element was rapid design and development along with flexibility to add and change features as well as integrating several data/ad tracking components. Mr. Kapczynski previously built a venture backed start-up in the Entertainment industry called MESoft; worked at Microsoft Corporation as a Director in Media & Entertainment, and built one of the first ecommerce technology start-ups called Digital Genesis.
    Mr. Kapczynski graduated from UCLA film school and continues to be active in multiple industry associations that span media, mobile, data, technology, and consumer internet. He has 12 patents to his name and an additional 40 patents pending.
    In his free time, Mr. Kapczynski enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 kids as well as car racing and playing the drums.

    Jon Bassett is an Analyst with DFJ Frontier, a DFJ Network partner fund and early stage venture capital firm focused on west coast media and information services investments. Based in Los Angeles, Jon is responsible for sourcing new deals, completing due diligence on prospective investments, and assisting portfolio companies. He started his career at Dell where he gained sales and operational experience working with inside sales teams and has since co-founded several startups including a long-short equities hedge fund. Jon teaches entrepreneurship and venture capital at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. He also co-founded and runs the Young VCs of LA group. Jon holds a BA in Economics from Davidson College.

    Prior to co-founding Hillcrest, Darin was Senior Associate at Arcturus Capital, where he evaluated and sourced investment opportunities from diverse industries. Darin represented the firm as board observer to High Throughput Genomics, one of the firm's portfolio companies. Darin began his career in venture capital as an Analyst at Hopewell Ventures, where he evaluated deal flow and helped raise the firm's inaugural fund. Before Hopewell, Darin co-founded Lan-CE, an industrial process improvement company, and E-volutionet.com, an Internet exchange for the procurement of services. Prior to his entrepreneurial work, Darin was an Associate at the law firm of Schaffer & Baumer, where he specialized in corporate law and represented cancer research organizations. Darin worked as a Research Scientist at Immunosciences Laboratories, a clinical immunology laboratory, before he began practicing law.

    Darin also serves on the investment screening committee for the Southern California Biomedical Council Investor Conference, as a company mentor for the NIH Commercialization Assistance Program, and on venture panels for CONNECT and OCTANe.

    Darin has a BA in Molecular Biology from Rice University, a JD from Loyola University of Chicago, and an MBA from the University of Chicago, graduating near the top of his class.

    Prior to running OrganicStartup, Scott Sangster was responsible for strategic planning and corporate development at the Walt Disney Internet Group. Scott Sangster identified new media growth opportunities, developed strategy, and managed the evaluation and execution of acquisitions that helped Disney meet its strategic objectives.

    Before Disney, Scott Sangster founded and managed a venture-backed Internet business, served five years as a management consultant to media and technology companies, and oversaw the launch of one of the first online banking services. He graduated from The American University in Washington D.C. and holds a MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Scott Sangster lives in Los Angeles and is actively involved in improving early childhood education.

Block is a Venture Partner and management member of K5 Venture Partners, an Orange County venture fund that operates an accelerator/incubator, and a member of the Tech Coast Angels, Southern California's largest angel investing group, serving on the Executive Committee of the Orange County network. He also serves on two non-profit Boards: The Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship at Chapman and the Long Beach Opera.

    Steve retired as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. in December 2003, having served in that position for 12 years. He has over 40 years of broad legal, management and executive experience and has served on the Boards of both private and public companies and of several industry trade associations and as the President of one. He has drafted legislation, lobbied at both the state and federal levels, and testified before Congressional and state legislative committees. He has taught Securities Regulation at Pace University Law School and lectured in continuing legal and business education programs. Steve holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a BA cum laude from Yale University.

    Peter Boutros has enjoyed a successful and diverse career starting in product management, marketing, and operations before moving into C-Level roles for consumer products and technology companies. In the last decade Peter has led teams that have driven in excess of US$1 billion in growth at small, mid and large cap companies. For nearly 10 years he worked for The Walt Disney Coy in various international locations and global roles, ultimately serving as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Category Management. Peter also held senior level positions at Nestle, Creata and Total Immersion. He serves as non-Executive chairman of Alphatise E-commerce, a start-up buyer driven technology platform.

    Currently Peter is Co-Chair of the HBS Angels SoCal and veraciously explores international businesses to leverage in the US. Prior to moving to Los Angeles, Peter lived and worked in Sydney, Hong Kong, Sao Paulo and Paris.

    Peter is an alum of Harvard Business School and attended management and leadership programs at Oxford University in England and UCLA’s Anderson School of Entrepreneurship.
