    An entrepreneur by both heritage and hard work, Charles “Chuck” Chesler has sold three self-built companies. He is unique in that his business training was gained not in an Ivy-league classroom, but from years of cultivating best practices from mentors, coaches and leaders.

    Chuck was born into a modest family of hard-working businessmen. In 1989, his father decided to retire and Chuck stepped in to take over the family business.

    Rather than just stay the course, Chuck took to the street to raise sales and leverage technology. Using telemarketing and professional presentations, he raised revenue with the creative use of free trials. With these creative tactics, sales tripled to over $2.4 million in less than 4 years. Chuck sold the business to a strategic buyer in 1992.

    Chuck then followed his passion for music and traveled the world with his band, meeting his future wife in Sweden before returning home to reenter business. He launched Digital Media Incorporated, a Web hosting and design business, and sold it to a network provider in 1996.

    Chuck founded Connecticut’s Village Office Supply and Furniture in 1998. Within 10 years, Chuck grew the company from 5 employees to 45. After a record 2007, he sold the business in 2008 to another strategic buyer.

    Since 2009 Chuck has become an active Angel Investor/Advisor working with companies in the Mobile, Crowd-Sourcing, and Lead Generation Spaces. Current investments include and

    A key to his success was an awareness of lessons learned along the way, and an ability to communicate these to the staff he mentored. Over the years, Chuck kept part of a cardboard box near his desk and recorded simple yet powerful business rules. He came to call these mantras his “Candy Making Secrets” and enjoys sharing his nuggets of wisdom with students and young entrepreneurs.

    Chuck belongs to several professional organizations, including The CEO Roundtable and The Business Council of Fairfield County, and currently lectures at Central Connecticut State University on Entrepreneurship and Leadership. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Pace University. Chuck lives with his wife and two children in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he is a mentor in the Norwalk Board Of Education’s Mentoring Program. He will always play music.

    Steve recently retired from Tangoe where he was one of the early angel investors, a board member, and most recently CTO for the last 3 years. Tangoe analysts are forecasting $150M+ in 2012 revenue. It was one of the top 10 IPO’s of 2011 and is the global leader in mobile expense management and a major player in mobile device management.

    Steve is an active angel investor and is on the board of the Angel Investor Forum.

    Steve started his career as a research faculty member at Yale University in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Computer Science Department and was a co-founder of two companies in the artificial intelligence area, one of which had an IPO in 1986.

    Steve then started the company that developed Esperant, one of the leading business intelligence tools of the 1990’s, and sold it to Software AG.

    He was also an interim CTO for a number of companies during the dotcom era and was the CTO of Computershare (largest global stock transfer agent) for 5 years.

    Steve is also the author of a book on natural language processing, has spoken at dozens of industry and academic conferences, has published numerous trade and academic articles, and has received two patents.

    Kristin recently founded Topstone Angels, an angel group dedicated to bringing new angel investors into the startup ecosystem. Kristin is a serial entrepreneur with experience in startups, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, new product development, nonprofits, as well as commercial and residential real estate. She has extensive experience in both traditional and new media, including executive positions at American Lawyer Media, The Deal, and A&E/The History Channel. Kristin currently serves on the Board of Green Guide Living and is a mentor to the NY Region of the Kairos Society. Her nonprofit experience includes multiple terms as President of the Board of Directors of the YWCA Darien/Norwalk. Kristin graduated from Fordham University with a BA in English Literature and an MBA in Finance and Marketing.

    J. Skyler Fernandes is the founding partner of One Match Ventures. Mr. Fernandes is a venture capitalist at Centripetal Capital Partners, an early stage venture fund with an innovative investment structure, and invests across industry sectors, such as internet, telecom, energy, nano-technology, and healthcare. Centripetal targets an average IRR of 30-50% and maintains a portfolio balanced in return multiples, ranging from 3-20x+ on capital invested. Mr. Fernandes is working with the Worldwide Investor Network to launch The Global Innovation Fund, a micro-fund focused on identifying the top international startups and providing the launch pad capital needed for them to enter the US market, helping to turn New York into the “Ellis Island of Innovation”. Mr. Fernandes has co-founded several internet companies and advises a number of startups. He also leads a number of global initiatives, including the Missing Middle Initiative, launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, focused on creating funds that invest $100K-$3M, a critical financing gap for early-mid stage businesses globally. He is a venture mentor at ER Accelerator, a New York City incubator as well as the Stamford Innovation Center. Additionally, Mr. Fernandes serves as COO and Board Member of the South African Chamber of Commerce in America (SACCA), where he focuses on facilitating trans-Atlantic business opportunities between the United Stated and South Africa. Previously, Mr. Fernandes worked in investment banking at Credit Suisse, in the asset securitization group at Societe Generale, and raised capital for Latin American corporations at Standard Bank. He graduated a year early from New York University summa cum laude, due to his studies at Harvard University in Quantum Physics and Foreign Policy. Mr. Fernandes is a frequent speaker on the topics of global entrepreneurship and venture capital at such venues as Harvard Business School, New York University, Wharton Business School, Wits Business School, The New York Venture Summit, Worldwide Investor Network, The United Nations, and The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

    Alan McGlade is a founder and Managing Director of DEV. He is a current advisor and investor in several media companies and a member of the ARC Angel Fund. Mr. McGlade has over two decades of experience in taking companies from early conceptual stage to significant market player in television, and digital media with an emphasis on music.

    For the last nine years Mr. McGlade was the Chief Executive and a member of the Board of Directors of MediaNet. The company powered music and media delivery in five territories in the US and Europe for many of the best known names in the business including AOL, Yahoo, HMV, Virgin, Samsung, Tesco, MTV, Microsoft's Zune and Google.

    Prior to running MediaNet, Mr. McGlade worked at MTV Networks. He joined the company after selling them the contactive music video channel, Video Jukebox Network (The Box), where he served as CEO for five years.

    Prior to his tenure at The Box, Mr. McGlade was the president of StarNet, which provided targeted cable marketing using a national satellite delivery system. Before that McGlade was the founder and president of Adlink, the largest cable advertising interconnect in the country.

    Mr. McGlade's commentaries have appeared in Billboard, Forbes and Multichannel News, among others, and he has appeared on CNBC, CNN Business and PBS.

    Peter J. Bilfield is a partner in the Stamford office, where his practice focuses on investment management, and corporate and securities law.     Howie is the CEO and Founder of Human Demand - a mobile Demand Side Platform (DSP) that works with mobile App and game developers on user acquisition campaigns.

    Nat Brinn has a 25-year successful track record of private investments, acquisitions and business management. The most recent example is HSA Bank, the largest specialty bank in the United States focused on health savings accounts. Nat has successful management experience in growth companies, including his role as CEO of HSA Bank, where accounts and revenues grew four-fold and the firm developed a significant profit margin from an initial loss position.

    Nat's private equity investments have achieved positive returns, with many returning 4-5x initial investment within several years. In aggregate, he has completed more than 80 transactions with positive results, including the avoidance of any defaults during his tenure as a private placement bond investor.

    Currently he is acting CEO of Vital Financial's portfolio company, CR Certification Corporation. Nat has significantly built revenues and revamped this company.

    While he was Executive Vice President of Corporate Development at Webster Bank, Nat was responsible for mergers and acquisitions as well as strategic initiatives. He also oversaw management of Budget Installment Company, a premium finance company that Webster acquired and grew three-fold in outstanding balances, revenues and profits over three years under his supervision.

    Upon acquiring HSA Bank for Webster, he was appointed to become CEO of HSA Bank. HSA Bank was purchased in early 2005 for a net premium of $12 million and was valued at nearly $100 million upon his departure at CEO in July 2007 to join Vital Financial. Both the Budget Installment and HSA Bank situations involved upgrading IT, financial, compliance and operating systems as well as building national sales organizations.

    Prior to his tenure at Webster Bank, Nat held positions in corporate development (M&A and strategic investing) and private placement investments at Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance and Inspection Company, Phoenix Home Life, Canadian Imperial Bank and Metropolitan Life.

    Nat has an MBA in finance and accounting from The Fuqua School of Business (Duke University), where he was a Fuqua Scholar and his class graduation speaker. He did his undergraduate work in economics, with additional focus in mathematics and statistics, at University of Delaware where he was in the honors program.

    David Hill is a former Senior Vice President of Research Content at FactSet Research Systems Inc (NYSE: FDS) and has over 25 years of business and product development experience in the financial services sector. During his tenure, FactSet grew from a company of less than 15 people to a publicly traded corporation with over $600 million in annual revenues and thousands of employees. While at FactSet, Mr. Hill led strategy and development for various new end user applications and content sets, including industry leading earnings estimate/research services and Marquee News/Quote applications. Each of these developments were successful in generating new revenue streams, gaining new market share and extending the functionality of the FactSet workstation for new user groups. Mr. Hill is a former board member of the Investorside Research Organization which focused of serving the business needs of the independent research firm. He has also served on the operating committee of, an industry trade organization dedicated to the production, distribution, and consumption of sell side research. Mr. Hill started his career as an equity analyst at Founders Asset Management. He is a graduate of University of Denver in the field of operations management and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Mr. Hill serves on several company Advisory Boards as well as remains active in local charity endeavors that focus on food delivery to the hungry ( He currently lives with his wife and children in New Canaan CT.

    Greg Slamowitz is a Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Ambrose Employer Group, LLC. Prior to co-founding Ambrose, Greg practiced tax law with Brown & Wood (now Sidley Austin Brown & Wood) in New York City. Greg holds two law degrees – a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University School of Law, and a Juris Doctorate, with distinction, from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta. He received his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from New York University. Greg was the recipient of the 2001 Ernst & Young New York Entrepreneur of the Year® award in the employment services category. Greg is a past president and a former member of the board of directors of the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO), his industry's trade association. He is also the founder and current treasurer of the NAPEO Political Action Committee, and recently received NAPEO's Government Affairs Leadership Award for his proactive leadership in government affairs.
