    Clint Chao is a founding general partner at Formative Ventures. Clint invests in emerging technologies start-ups in areas such as communications, wireless, and next-generation Internet solutions. Clint is an experienced technology executive who brings more than 20 years of start-up operating experience including marketing, sales and business development to Formative Ventures. His investments and board leadership include Mashery, Marketocracy, Silicon Clocks, Smalltown, SOASTA, and Zyray Wireless (acquired by Broadcom in 2004).

    Prior to co-founding Formative Ventures, Clint served as vice president of marketing, sales, and business development at SkyStream Networks (acquired by Tandberg TV), a leading provider of video routing equipment. Under his leadership, SkyStream formed partnerships with industry leaders such as AOL Time Warner, HP, Microsoft, RealNetworks, Lucent Technologies, Mitsubishi, and Philips.

    Prior to joining SkyStream, Clint served as senior director of marketing at C-Cube Microsystems where he was responsible for marketing for the PC Division, a group he co-founded and grew to run rates exceeding $50M in sales annually. Clint began his tenure at C-Cube as the first salesperson for the company, where he created the company’s sales representation network around the country.

    Before joining C-Cube in 1990, Clint held numerous sales and sales management positions at Motorola Semiconductor, where he was recognized as one of the company’s top salespeople.

    Clint earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California at Berkeley.

    Karan joined Trinity Ventures in 2010 with more than ten years of experience in enterprise software and systems, SaaS, semiconductors, consumer electronics and next generation datacenter infrastructure technologies. Prior to Trinity, Karan was a Senior Associate at Scale Venture Partners and was actively involved with Scale’s investments in NComputing, Siimpel (acquired by Tessera) and Discera. At Scale, Karan focused on enterprise infrastructure including storage, virtualization and cloud computing, enterprise software and SaaS.

    Before Scale he was a Strategic Sales Account Manager at Synopsys. He was instrumental in closing more than $40 Million in strategic and territorial design wins during 2006 and 2007 and directed the sales effort for Synopsys’ software suite, IP and professional services. He also led marketing, applications and sales efforts for his team’s top accounts and worked closely with the company’s strategic customers and product management teams on the development of new products. Prior to Synopsys, he was an implementation manager in the fabless semiconductor market for PMC-Sierra in Vancouver, Canada. During his five years with PMC-Sierra, he led and managed design implementation of large scale ASICs targeted for the telecommunications, enterprise storage and networking markets.

    Ed Esber has over thirty five years experience in the computer and software industry. Business Week magazine and Computer Reseller News have identified Ed as a pioneer and visionary leader of the personal computer industry who is credited with developing the market strategies for two of the world’s best selling software packages of the 1980s: VisiCalc and dBase.

    Ed has personally started, grown and/or turned around over fifteen companies, some of which became public companies. He has been a member of the Angels’ Forum for 9 years and a co founding member of Halo Fund Management Company, Halo Fund II Management Company and Halo Opportunity Fund Management Company. In 2007, he became a Co Managing Member of all previous funds and a Co Founder of The Halo Fund III Management Company.

    Ed is on the Board of Directors for Quantum, BenefitStreet and iTaggit. He was the CEO or President of Ashton Tate, Creative Insights, Creative Labs, Pocket.com and SoloPoint. He started his career by working for Texas Instruments, IBM and Digital General. Ed has also taught an MBA course at the Weatherhead School of Business at Case Western Reserve University entitled “Starting and Managing a Successful Startup”. Ed has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He earned an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.

    Steve Goldberg joined Venrock in 2009 after having been CEO of several early stage companies including DataRunway, Vidient, Arcwave, and CoWave Networks. He was Vice President of Research and Development at Nokia Internet Communications and VP and GM of the Wireless Communications Division at Cylink Corporation. Steve has also held senior management and engineering positions at Trimble Navigation and Hewlett Packard. Additionally, Steve enjoys teaching and public speaking, and has delivered a number of academic and industrial courses in the areas of wireless, telecom, and signal processing.

Larry was among the first equity analysts to cover PC and video games, followed by internet media and enhanced TV (e.g. Scientific Atlanta, General Instrument, Gemstar, Wink). Through a hands on, product oriented approach, he developed a successful methodology and track record of backing products/companies at early stages of adoption that would eventually achieve mass market success, including Terayon, Edmark, Women.com, Netflix, CBS Marketwatch, Maxis, Activision and Spectrum HoloByte. Prior operating experience includes consulting for both Digidesign and Maxis, media planning at a major New York ad agency and general management in computer services retail. Larry received both his Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Business Administration from University of California, Berkeley. Larry is an avid drummer and a green tech enthusiast.
