    John Frankel has been an early-stage venture investor since 1999. Mr. Frankel was one of the earliest investors in Quigo Technologies, which was purchased by AOL in December 2007, and in Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD on NASDAQ) which had a successful IPO in March 2011. He has also served and/or now serves on the boards of 500px, Apparel Media Group,, Centzy, ClearPath Immigration, Infochimps, Gobbler, Klout,,,, Quigo Technologies, StrongTech, The Goldman Sachs Trust Company,, and Voxy. He is also a Mentor with the Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator program.

    He worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co. for 21 years in a variety of roles that involved technology development, reengineering, and capital markets. In particular, he established Goldman’s Cayman offshore administration business, their London global custody business, and reengineered their global prime brokerage business. In capital markets, he worked closely with some of the world’s leading hedge funds, and developed a keen understanding of portfolio risk/return management. He started his business career with Arthur Anderson & Co. in the audit and insolvency divisions.

    Mr. Frankel earned a Master of Arts from New College, Oxford where he studied Mathematics, Philosophy and Logic, and is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

    Dave has a background in telecommunications and computing, with an emphasis on databases, automation, web technology, user interface design and IP/PSTN interfaces. Established expertise in VoIP technology, object oriented design, and extensive experience in ISP business. Dave is a member of Baltimore Angels, which puts angel investors in touch with entrepreneurs via bimonthly meetings and other events.

    Ms. Clifford is an Associate at Paladin focused on sourcing, analyzing and monitoring investment opportunities. Most recently, Ms. Clifford was Chief Operating Officer of a venture backed wireless middleware company with responsibility for finance, business development and marketing. Prior to this, Ms. Clifford was an Associate at Intersouth Partners and worked closely with the firm’s technology and life science investments. She previously led Cisco System’s new product introduction and manufacturing for the company’s first government focused network security products. She gained start-up experience in Silicon Valley leading new product introduction and manufacturing for Andiamo Systems a storage networking company. She assisted in establishing alliances in the storage space with EMC, IBM, HP, Hitachi and NetApp. Andiamo was acquired by Cisco Systems in 2003 for $2.5 billion. Ms. Clifford served 5 years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in international and domestic assignments. Ms. Clifford earned her M.B.A. from the Fuqua School of Business (Duke University) and her bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy.

    Todd Klein is a successful venture capitalist and author who for over twenty years has focused on building Transformative Companies--those that not only succeed but transform their industries, their markets and the world around them.     Presently, Todd is founder and managing partner of Legend Ventures, a private investment firm targeting New Media and Information Technology opportunities. Previously, he was a managing director and member of the investment committee of Kinetic Ventures. In aggregate, he has invested in over 80 companies and realized 25 successful exits through either M&A or IPOs, serving as lead investor, committee chairman and various other roles.

    Todd’s passion is working with growing enterprises and his expertise is in evaluating and analyzing the structural, cultural and strategic elements that differentiate Transformative Companies from their contemporaries. He is the author of East of Wall Street, a work of business fiction focused on entrepreneurialism and the forthcoming Built for Change: Essential Traits of Transformative Companies, (Praeger) to be published in the fall of 2010.

    Todd is a frequent speaker on capital formation and entrepreneurship and has been quoted in the Associated Press, Boston Globe and several other publications. He is a member of Young Presidents Organization and is the founder and chairman of YPO’s global Raising Capital seminar, the leading capital formation educational program for YPO worldwide. He is also the incoming chairman of YPO’s Deal Network, a network of over 2,300 transaction-focused CEO’s from around the globe. He received his BBA from the University of Texas and MBA from Harvard University. Todd is married with four children and lives in Bethesda, Maryland.

    Lenard Marcus is a member of the Virginia, Maryland and DC investment team. Lenard identifies and evaluates investment opportunities. Lenard participates in due diligence and structuring investments. His activities include market research, technology assessment and financial analysis. He is actively involved in the entrepreneurial, technology and financing communities in the MAVA region.

    Lenard began his career at IBM where he worked as a financial analyst for IBM Global Services. His main responsibilities were overseeing a budget of $80 million and partnering with International locations to decrease the project costs of IBM Global Services West. Later, Lenard worked for Princeton eCom an on-line bill payment company where as Manager of B2C implementations he oversaw one of the largest joint ventures in the company's history. Lenard also worked in Health Care Investment Banking for Wachovia Securities.

    Lenard holds a MBA from Columbia Business School with a concentration in Finance and Management and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.

    Janet Yang joined Novak Biddle Venture Partners in 2006. Trained in electrical engineering from Stanford University, Janet started her investment career on Wall Street as a sell-side equity research analyst for Merrill Lynch and later Salomon Smith Barney, where she was a top-ranked analyst in her sector according to fund managers’ surveys, and helped raised over $800 million for various corporations.

    Janet is on the board of WealthEngine and serves as a Board Observer for portfolio companies: Avail Media/TVN, eMinor and Starfish Retention Solutions.

    Prior to Novak Biddle, Janet worked closely with William H. Draper, III in San Francisco-based venture capital firm, Draper Richards, focusing on early-stage technology investments in the United States and India.

    Janet brings substantial international experience, as well as operating experience, to Novak Biddle. She has over 10 years of work experience in Asia, in particular, the Greater China region. While in Asia, Janet held various senior executive positions at PCCW, the largest telecommunications company in Hong Kong, reporting to Chairman and CEO Richard Li. Her experience included being the CFO of an IT outsourcing company in partnership with China Telecom and PCCW.

    Janet is multi-lingual, fluent in Chinese and had studied Japanese and French. She has lived and worked in New York, San Francisco, Washington DC, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing.

    Mr. Freschman is a Managing Principal of Innovation Capital Advisors, LLC (ICA). ICA serves as the management company of Innovation Ventures, L.P. (IV), and the Delaware Innovation Fund (DIF). He has served as the President and CEO of the DIF since its establishment in 1995. The DIF is a seed- and early-stage venture capital fund that focuses on entrepreneurial ventures in the Mid-Atlantic region. Mr. Freschman has been responsible for all aspects of IV’s and the DIF’s management since its inception, including the business strategy, fiscal and operational management, raising investment capital, and evaluating all investment opportunities and portfolio company management.

    Mr. Freschman is active in the venture and entrepreneurial communities. He is one of the organizers and initial investors in the Mid-Atlantic Angel Group, where he served on the angel fund's Executive and Investment Committees. He sits on a number of Boards, and has been a lecturer on venture capital, entrepreneurship and angel investing at The White House Conference on Small Business, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, the University of Delaware, Goldey-Beacom College, and Loyola College in Baltimore. He is the creator and founder of Early Stage East – the premier early-stage venture capital event on the East Coast. In 2001, Mr. Freschman was appointed by Gov. Ruth Ann Minner to chair the venture capital study of Delaware’s Strategic Economic Council. Mr. Freschman was appointed and served a three-year term representing New Castle County, Delaware, on the Small Business Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia through 2002.

    Prior to establishing the DIF, Mr. Freschman was responsible for the formation of the corporate finance advisory division of McBride Shopa & Company, one of the largest certified public accounting and consulting firms in Delaware. Mr. Freschman began his career with the Enterprise Group of the Philadelphia office of Arthur Andersen, LLP, from 1984 through 1989. He graduated with honors with an MBA from Loyola College of Maryland and cum laude from the University of Delaware with a B.S. in accounting, where he was a John B. Lynch Scholar. He is also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma – the National Honor Society.
