Andrea Kaufman, Partner, Novak Biddle Venture Partners
Andrea analyses, advises and invests in a broad range of information technology, IT security and education-technology companies for Novak Biddle Venture Partners. Kaufman joined Novak Biddle in 1999 with solid experience in transactions including IPOs, mergers and acquisitions and venture capital financing.
Washington Business Forward Magazine named Kaufman to The Next Network, a list of 40 Rising Stars. At Novak Biddle, Kaufman serves as a director for Object Video and System Detection, and is an observer for Matrics.
Prior to Novak Biddle, Andrea practiced law in the corporate finance and venture capital practice of Venable, Baetjer, Howard & Civiletti, where she represented high technology clients, underwriters and institutional investors.
Andrea earned a Juris Doctor from Fordham University and a Masters of Law in Taxation from Georgetown University, and has been admitted to the bar in New York and Washington, D.C. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Johns Hopkins University.
As Managing Director at H.I.G. Ventures, John focuses primarily on Internet, semiconductor and wireless investments. His main investment themes include digital/physical convergence, web-as-platform and ubiquitous semiconductor. He currently serves on the boards of Batanga, Inovys, Loc-Aid, LVL7 Systems, RxStrategies, and Zilker Labs. Previously, John was a co-founder, interim CEO and board director of Cooligy, a semiconductor cooling manufacturer started by three Stanford professors, backed by top-tier venture capital firms and acquired by Emerson Electric (NYSE:EMR). He also was the COO of a 100+ person eCommerce portal, General Manager of a semiconductor equipment manufacturer and Business Development Director at a product development software company. He began his career at Booz, Allen & Hamilton where he consulted on operations strategy to Fortune 500 companies. John received an M.S. and B.S. with Phi Beta Kappa honors in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. degree with distinction from Harvard Business School.
Daniel Weitzel, Partner, Duane Morris
Daniel P. Weitzel represents a wide variety of clients in the field of
corporate law, with an emphasis on financial institutions and emerging
growth companies, focusing on private and public placements of both debt and equity, holding company and other corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and general and corporate business planning.
He also provides extensive counseling and assistance with respect to securities reporting requirements, bank regulatory matters, executive compensation, and employee benefits and corporate governance matters. In addition, Mr. Weitzel has been involved in limited trade association
Mr. Weitzel is a frequent speaker on matters relating to corporate
governance in a variety of seminars and conventions across the country. He
is a member of the Section of Corporate, Finance and Securities Law of the
District of Columbia Bar and a member of the Corporation, Banking and
Business Law Section of the American Bar Association. Mr. Weitzel is a 1981
graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and a graduate of John Carroll
Tony Ricciardella, Grant Thornton
Tony is newly promoted Assurance Partner in Grant Thorntonís Technology Industry Practice. He is located in the Vienna, Virginia office and services clients throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area. Tony has over twelve years experience in public accounting and two years experience as assistant director of finance for a $50 million professional services firm. He has extensive experience in audits of both public and privately held commercial clients, including numerous audits of technology companies.
Tony is an active provider of value-added assurance and business advisory services, primarily to information technology, professional and technical service, commercial, and government contracting firms. In this regard, Tony has assisted his clients with merger and acquisition due diligence, finance, public registrations, and general business advice. As Assurance Partner, he is responsible for coordinating all assurance services delivered to his clients, providing technical advice on complex accounting issues and reviewing public filings.
Tony is an active member of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, and Tech Council of Maryland and serves as an advisor to the Reston Chamber of Commerce Incubator Program. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and earned a BS in Business Administration/Accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
