The Zino Society is an organization of angel investors brought together by a common passion for business and wine. It was founded by Cathi Hatch on 2005 in Seattle, Washington. Ms. Hatch currently occupies the President and CEO seat of the group's executive team. To date, the Zino Society has over 225 members who actively participate in investment activities and social events. It already has over $7 million worth of investments obtained from nearly over sixty company presentations that they have hosted within the last two years. The group hosts a number of unique events every year where members participate in wine testing, mingle with vintners and chefs and find investment opportunities.
Investments of Zino society are usually on private companies in the early stage or later stage of development, preferably those that are engaged in consumer products and services, wine, technology, life sciences, and real estate. Companies that are interested to apply for funding should register through an online system to submit an application. An executive summary with a maximum of five pages is also required. Applications have a corresponding fee of about $150. These applications shall be evaluated by the screening board at the end of the month. The board will select companies that will move forward to the second round of screening. Those who will pass the second round of screening will present their business plans to the coaching board. After which, the companies will be selected to present their business plans on a forthcoming meeting of the investors. In order to have an effective presentation, the selected companies are required to attend a coaching session.
On the other hand, membership to Zino Society is divided into five categories. The first of which is the Investor Roundtable membership. Members should be accredited investors in accordance to the guidelines and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States. That is, an individual or joint net worth of at least $1 million, or an individual annual income of at least $200,000, or a joint annual income of at least $300,000. The annual membership fee is $2,500 for individuals and $4,000 for couples. Next is the Zino 4-0 membership, which was introduced to encourage individuals who are 40 years old or below to become members. Members of this category should also be accredited investors. Member benefits are the same with the Investor Roundtable members, with an annual membership fee of $1,500. Zino Society membership, on the other hand, are for those who are not interested in investment activities, but want to participate in Zino Society events and enjoy a lifestyle of wine and fine dining activities. The annual membership fee is $350 for individuals and $650 for couples. And then, the Wine Professional membership is open to individuals who are in the wine industry. The benefits of this membership is the same with those of Zino Society members. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with other people who are in the same business and have the chance to show their products and services to all members. Lastly, the Temporary Resident membership is for those who resides outside the Puget Sound region. They can avail either an Investor Roundtable type of membership or a Zino Society type of membership. All applications are forwarded to the membership selection committee. The processing of applications is done within three days.
