New York Angels is an angel investment group launched in New York City on January of 2004. It is an assembly of diverse individuals helping each other by consolidating their expertise in different fields and using them in mentoring new companies to reach their full growth potential. Its roots can be traced back in 1997 as a simple Angel Investor Program created by the New York New Media Association (NYNMA). When the Software and Industry Association (SIIA) took over a great part of NYNMA's programs in 2004, the NYNMA Angel Investment Program went through a reformation and gave birth to what is now known as the New York Angels.
The New York Angels currently has 66 members. These members are accredited investors according to SEC regulations in the United States. They are respected and experienced professionals who have built their own successful companies as Chief Executive Officers or have had prior lucrative investments, have wide networks of significant connections, dedicated in participating in the group's activities or events, and invest at least $50,000 in one or more investments in a year. Membership in the group is strictly by invitation only although interested and qualified individuals may fill out and submit a membership inquiry form available online. The membership committee shall schedule a briefing and interview for qualified applicants. Prospective members are also requested to attend at least one breakfast meeting.
Individually, the amount of annual investment per transaction of the New York Angels ranges from $25,000 to $100,000, and from $50,000 to $500,000 as a group. They engage in an average of four investments in any given year. The group's typical investments are on companies with strong management teams, significant market potentials, goals that raises company value, high potential for rapid progress and growth, definite advantage in the market, concepts that fit within the group member investors' preferences or expertise, innovative products, and viable exit strategies that can provide ten times return of investment in a period of eight years.
Interested applicants for funding should submit their business plans online. During the investment group's screening meeting, a company that would draw interest from the screening committee shall be asked to do a 10-minute presentation on their business plan and another 10 minutes for questions. Thereafter, a more extensive presentation shall be carried out by the candidate company to all the member investors. Thirty minutes shall be allotted for business presentation and 15 minutes for questions prior to a due diligence process which will be performed by the member investors. The terms and negotiations will be discussed after and then the final investment shall take place. All successful companies that would qualify for funding shall be assisted by a member of the New York Angels. He or she shall be a member of the board, and utilize his or her expertise and connections for the success of the company.

The New York Angels website is a fully-packed investment information utility. The home page is not merely a simple backgrounder page, but is also navigable to different links of vital information. Aside from the tab links on the top of the page, there are also boxed links within the page arranged and categorized in a very organized manner. There is a "recent investments" box that features a company and a part of information about its background. Clicking the company name would connect us to the company website. Within the same page is also a link to the New York Angels portfolio of company investments. Likewise, the "sponsors box" provides a list of the investment group's company sponsors that is also linked to their company website. Another link leads to the website's sponsors page. The "featured member" box randomly features any member investor of the group and a link to his/her own full biography. A partial list of the investment group's events is also enumerated in an "events box" with a link to a complete events list. An area for investment fund and investor applicants is also included at the bottom part of the home page. There is also a link included that leads to full information about the process of application, requirements, and evaluation.
All investment fund applications are accumulated through a system upon submission. Applications are submitted electronically through a link provided in the entrepreneurs page. Registration will give an applicant a user name and password to access their accounts /applications for further updates. This account contains all the vital information for investment fund evaluation, such as business plans. There is also a sponsors page that contains New York Angels' company sponsors and a link to their websites. Sponsorship requirements are provided as well. To further strengthen the investment group's credibility in the business, a portfolio of investment companies page is also included.
