RVI, or the River Valley Investors, is an angel investor group based in Springfield, Massachusetts. It is composed of member investors functioning as one body looking out for investments with high level of viability and equity. The group not only invests on existing businesses that are on the start-up stage, but also on those in the latter stages of expansion and development. The group is a collaboration of experiences, fields of expertise and valid connections, utilized managing their investments and raising the level of investment quality.
Member investors of the RVI group are accredited investors in accordance with the SEC regulations. They are experts in specific business fields with wide networks of connections and interests in investments of quality and equity. Furthermore, a member investor assists in management and leadership of the group, in sourcing out and screening of prospective investments, in due diligence evaluations and other essential and arising needs. The RVI accepts membership applications anytime. Those who are interested to join are encouraged to submit their applications and attend the investment group's business or social events.
Investments of RVI are largely on those businesses that are within their fields of expertise, whose location is in close proximity to Springfield, on the early and expansion stage, has a strong management team, can provide ten times return of investments within the span of 5-7 years and should not exceed $2 million in the initial funding and $20 million in the follow-on funding. The group prefers to invest on business products and services, electronics/instrumentation, financial services, industrial/energy, and medical devices and equipment. Applications that has met the criteria would undergo various levels of screening starting off with an initial screening, which is done on the group's monthly meeting, preliminary due diligence, presentation of business proposal, critical point due indulgence and lastly, in-depth due diligence. After a thorough and rigid screening, negotiation and final investment shall take place.
The River Valley Investors management and administration team is divided into two, the Committees and the Staff. The Committees are divided into three: they are the Screening Committee headed by the Dealflow Director, the Membership Committee headed by the Membership Director and the Executive Committee, which is composed of the Chair, Dealflow Director, Membership Director and Treasurer. These Executive Committee members are determined through an annual election. Its task is to ensure outstanding management and leadership of the investment group. The Staff members, on the other hand, include the over all staff, the manager and the disclosure staff.
The River Valley Investors is a founding member of the Angel Capital Association. Approximately, the investment groups annual flow of transactions are: 150 screenings of prospective investment, 20 business proposals/presentations, 8 investments consisting of at least one member since 2003 and 3 investments consisting of at least two members since 2003.
