Members actively participate in screening potential start-up members, the due diligence process, and deal closures. In between these tasks, members guide their start-up members in making decisions and coming up with marketing strategies to ensure a significant return on their investments. NCAF members likewise leverage their resources to fully assist in the development and success of new enterprises. Above all, the Fund investors aims to foster a favorable environment in its portfolio companies and qualified start-up members.

To be specific, the Fund focuses on technology enterprises from IT, biosciences, power propulsion, electronics and controls, and advanced materials industries. NCAF also considers investment in other industries as long as the proposals submitted are well-articulated and compelling enough to deserve a seed capital. Typical investment is from $200,000 up to $300,000. As NCAF builds strong partnership with various angel groups and venture capitalist firms across the region, start-ups that need investment more than $1M are supported by the Fund's syndicate networks. Follow-on funding depends on the criteria and qualifications set by the angel organizations and VC firms.

Aside from the investment criteria mentioned above, the Fund also seeks enterprises with well-defined marketing plans and exit strategy to support its business. The entrepreneur should also have a grasp of his product or service and its target market scalable to different consumers. Furthermore, the venture must be administered by a competent management team with strong business qualifications.

How does the investment process go? Interested entrepreneurs must submit their executive summaries online based on the criteria stipulated on the website. The Screening Committee, comprised of five select members, reviews the proposals sent to the group after all requirements are met including the $300 processing fee. Shortlisted entrepreneurs are notified to present in one of the group's meeting. Accordingly, members provide feedback and suggest areas of improvement on each proposal. Due diligence and funding are determined by suffrage and agreement is signed between the entrepreneur and NCAF regarding deal closure.
