Although angel investment activities are already predominant in Europe way back in 1996, it was only in 1999 that the European Business Angel Network was created. It is a non-profit organization established by the European Association of Development Agencies in cooperation with the European Commission. Its goal is to propagate the advancement of the angel investment industry throughout Europe. The European Business Angel Network is a venue for its members to learn from each other and advocate the best investment practices. It also supports the angel investment activities by providing assistance through various programs for the local, regional, and nationwide scope. The European Angel Network is a privileged partner of the Angel Capital Association, the leading angel investment group alliance in North America.
The full members of the European Angel Network cover a vast expanse of organizations such as international angel investment organizations; local, regional, and national angel groups; and angel organizations from other countries. There are also associate members composed of organizations and individuals that are interested to be involved in promoting investment activities in Europe. Currently, there are about fifty national and regional network members. These members are entitled to many benefits from the European Angel Network. Those who are interested to become members should fill-out a membership application form and questionnaire which can be downloaded from the European Angel Network website. Submission of applications and other inquiries can be forwarded to Ms. Claire Munck through telephone, fax, or electronic mail. All kinds of membership application has a corresponding fee.
Members have a privilege to form various connections through the network's regular dialogue with the European Commission. Member organizations are accessible through their visibility in the European investment scene from being part of the European Angel Network. Members also benefit from numerous projects and events initiated by the network, as well as from research studies and newsletters. The European Angel Network holds annual events such as an awareness congress, technical events, and ad hoc meetings.
