The Desert Angels is an investment group established in the year 2000 at Tucson, Arizona. It is a non-profit organization composed of accredited investors who work together in seeking quality investment opportunities on newly emerging companies in the local region. The investment group does not operate on a pooled fund basis. Instead, members are entitled to make individual investment decisions per investment deal and commit certain amount of investment from their own private funds. These members are of great credibility from their respective fields of expertise. They have either held key positions in large private companies, are entrepreneurs themselves, or are adept in the investment business. The investment group also engages into co-investments with other individual investors, angel investment groups or venture capital organizations.
Through the course of its existence in the angel investment business, the Desert Angels has been participating actively in sponsoring educational seminars, such as the "Power of Angel Investing" by the Kauffman Foundation. The group also supports the Eller College of Management of the University of Arizona, as well as its McGuire Entrepreneurship Program. Desert Angels is also a charter member of the largest angel investment organization in Northern America, the Angel Capital Association.
The Desert Angels currently has more than seventy members who has participated in over a hundred evaluations of funding applications annually. All members are qualified and accredited investors in accordance to the rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States. That is, an individual or joint annual net worth of about $1 million or more, or an individual annual income of about $200,000 or more, or a joint annual income of at least $300,000 or more. Interested applicants for membership and for other inquiries about membership requirements should directly contact the group's executive director, Mr. Bob Morrison via electronic mail or telephone.
On the other hand, companies that are interested to apply for funding from the Desert Angels are encouraged to send their executive summaries, as well as other application inquiries to Mr. Max Anhoury via electronic mail. The group is not very particular with the technological aspect of a prospective company, and is open to companies of varied industries, provided that they meet the group's qualifications. A company that will pass the initial review will be requested to fill out a questionnaire. A screening panel shall further evaluate the company thereafter. If the company qualifies, a formal business presentation to the entire group membership shall be requested. An average of one or two business presentations are usually held during the group's scheduled regular meetings. A presentation fee of $250 is required of each company and an indemnification agreement shall also be signed by each company prior to the business presentation. The monthly dinner meetings are usually graced by key speakers in the investment business and an opportunity for prospective members to attend as guests.
