    Angel Investor Group Profile
CommonAngels FundingPost Venture Capital and Angel Investor Network
CommonAngels is an investment group organization founded on June 1998 in Lexington, Massachusetts. Their name originated from the historic grounds in Boston where public meetings usually takes place. Being an angel investment group, they provide funding to companies that are innovative and highly technological. The group is composed of 70 individual members and a number of limited partners coming from two co-investment funds. Cumulatively, the CommonAngels have about 58 sectors or fields of expertise, including software, Web 2.0/media, semiconductors, electronics, telecommunications, materials science, and medical devices.

The investment group members have witnessed and contributed to the advancement of the software and Internet companies in the area. Thus, the CommonAngels is armed with a span of forty years of very successful experience and expertise of its members in the software industry, information technology industry and the Internet business industry. Members are usually accomplished businessmen or executives who operate highly technological companies themselves.

Successful businessmen of high technology industries who are accredited investors as per SEC regulations are qualified to be a member of the CommonAngels. Although membership to the group is currently full, applications are still being accepted.

The CommonAngels prefer to invest on companies in the Boston area that are on their early stage of development and are highly competitive. The nature of company's business should be within the field of the members' expertise. They prefer information technology innovations in software, telephony, semiconductors, RFID, and medical devices that do not require clinical trials. The amount of investment that the angel group can give is between $500,000 to $5 million.

Companies who are interested to apply for funding are encouraged to submit their business plans via email. Any company that incites the interest of the member investors and meets the group's qualifications would be asked to give a 30-minute presentation of its business, and will also be given a 15-minute question-and-answer session in front of a panel. Companies that would gain the most positive response from the members and investors will present their proposal during the CommonAngels' monthly breakfast meeting. The company who would draw the most interest from the members would undergo a due diligence process of four to six weeks. After the final negotiations and actual investment, a member of the CommonAngels will sit as one of the Board of Directors.

The CommonAngels have incorporated about more than 115 companies, more than a hundred companies sold and has taken a part in more than 34 IPO's. They have about $37 million worth of investments from their own group and a total of $100 million worth of investments from their co-investors. The companies they have recently funded are Adesso, Bitpipe, Carbonite, Design2Launch, DYS Analytics, GateRocket, HNW, Interactive Supercomputing, Nimbit, Outside The Classroom, PermissionTV, Polnox, Sand Video, Skyhook Wireless, TimeTrade Systems, Tizor, Vela Systems and WorldWinner. They are also a member of the New England Venture Capital Association and a founding member of the Angel Capital Association.

    CommonAngels Website

A true reflection of its members and their common interest in technology, the CommonAngels website is very innovative. A dramatic introduction of short words defining the angel group welcomes you to the site. The first page states the group's brief history and background. It also provides details that proves the group's credibility in the investment business and technology. This can be found in a complete page for member profiles, complete with photographs. The list of members is subdivided into the different sectors or fields of expertise. As an investment group that has been trusted by many companies throughout their years of existence, a list of their recent company investments is provided as well.

Companies who seek funding can rely on the website for the criteria that the CommonAngels are looking for in their prospective investments. All the qualifications for funding application are given. Sending of applications can be done through email, that is provided in a page for contact information. The page also gives a physical address as well as a complete direction going to the CommonAngels' office.

Informative pages such as a news page to know the recent goings-on in the investment world or the CommonAngels and FAQs or frequently asked questions page are included as well.
