DePaul Blue Angel Network FundingPost Venture Capital and Angel Investor Network
The DePaul University's Coleman Entrepreneurship Center (CEC) oversees the DePaul Blue Angel Network (DBAN), an organization of private investors that supports start-up ventures initiated by alumni and students of the University. The group helps early-stage companies through seed capital investment and management guidance as well as assisting them in raising capital for the next rounds of financing. In addition, DBAN is a forum where young entrepreneurs and private investors meet to discuss business opportunities that will help create jobs to accelerate the economic growth in the region.

Aside from being directly involved in the investment process, DBAN members manage deal sourcing to ensure the quality of investments raised by the group. The organization has its wide network of syndicate angel groups, venture capitalist firms, and organizations related to the University. In addition, DBAN members gain access to business resources as well as being part of an environment of shared interests and investment collaborations. As most of the applications are through referrals, DBAN members follow a strict set of criteria in selecting potential investments. Members are accredited investors based on the requirements specified by the Securities and Exchange Commission guidelines. Each investor earns an annual income of at least $200,000 and whose individual net worth exceeds $1 million.

DePaul entrepreneurs who are looking for initial financing are requested to upload necessary documents (executive summary, business plan, financial projection, etc.) along with the standard Application Form available on the network's website. Upon receipt, the Screening Committee reviews the qualification of each proposal and chooses two entrepreneurs that will present at DBAN's investment meeting. Members of the network officiate the presentation and provide feedback and suggestions on how the company can improve some areas of the business and increase its potential for follow-on investment.

The CEC holds a series of Angel Academy seminars to educate prospective investors on the nature of angel investing. Topics of discussion include the investment process, selection criteria, evaluation of business opportunities, marketing analysis, the due diligence process, corporate management, operational models, and deal closures. These seminars provide a forum on how an angel investor can reap outstanding returns from their investments. As of the moment, the CEC is planning to create a DePaul Angel Fund -- a pool of investments from members of the network.

The partnership between angel groups and universities continues to prosper during the last few years as academic institutions and organizations recognize the significance of entrepreneurship in providing diverse opportunities to their students. In addition, business grants equip them with experiences to maximize their potential as entrepreneurs. Colleagues of DBAN in the angel industry include Bluegrass Angels with University of Kentucky in Lexington and Marquette University Golden Angels Network with the University of Marquette in Milwaukee.

    DePaul Blue Angel Network Website

The DePaul Blue Angel Network is currently in the process of developing and enriching its website. As a subsidiary of the DePaul University, the articles included are mostly the objectives, events, projects, and programs initiated by the institution. For the DBAN page however, the information provided about the group's mission to support early-stage entrepreneurs is sufficient enough to be considered by a potential start-up. The investment process is explained well by providing a rundown of the step-by-step procedure undertaken by the Screening Committee. In addition, the site uses a convenient software in receiving executive summaries and business plans from entrepreneurs. Returning users also get the option to revisit their plans and edit them if they wish to. Conversely, the benefits of being a member of the network is discussed. The Coleman Entrepreneurship Center, as the angel group's manager, provides its office address, phone number, and email address for feedback and inquiries about the DePaul Blue Angel Network.
