Active Angel Investors (AAI) is part of New Vantage Group's (NVG) umbrella of angel investment organizations whose mission is to support start-up companies in the mid-Atlantic region (Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland). Aside from providing initial funding investment, entrepreneurs can also benefit from AAI's pool of skilled professionals and elite executives who offer counseling and strategic advice once their companies managed to pass the screening process. AAI members are not only investing their time and money but also their skills and experience in corporate management and market strategies to guide young entrepreneurs in reaching their goals. In addition, AAI establish networks with related organizations, angel investors, and venture capitalist firms to further support their portfolio companies in subsequent funding and deal sourcing.

AAI members are experienced entrepreneurs who have a keen understanding of the ins and outs in angel financing, funding fundamentals, market potential, due diligence process, corporate management, and syndication. In addition, these individuals devote their time in NVG's events, dinner meetings, activities, and selection of potential companies in promoting the organization's goal of supporting start-ups. To be part of AAI, prospective members are requested to send their application online or to drop by the group's head office. Interested parties must be accredited investors based on the requirements given by the Securities and Exchange Commission. With a team of senior executives to guide them in every decision to make, start-up companies who were given nods for initial investment also have the privilege to become part of AAI's exclusive network of financing groups.

Group members meet eleven times a year, roughly once every month, to review two or three submitted investment opportunities to the group. The minimum investment among early stage companies that AAI can provide is $250,000. In case a start-up needs an investment that is worth between $500,000 and $5M, AAI seeks financial help from its partner organizations.

AAI's investment criteria are as follows:

*Office and operations should be within the states in the mid-Atlantic region.

*The business service or product should have an advantage over its competitors as well as a huge market potential and sustainable opportunity for growth. In addition, proprietary technology and patent issues should already be established by the time of application.

*The target market should be over $200M and handled by a strong management team that is competitive enough to succeed within a short period of time.

*The start-up company should also consider other investment group funding aside from the AAI seed capital application.

Entrepreneurs who submitted their executive summaries online shall undergo the rigorous screening process as well as calls from the group regarding needed requirements. After presenting to a select group of AAI members and gaining interest from the investors, companies shall be subjected to a due diligence process that usually takes 6-12 weeks. These start-ups shall be further reviewed and assessed with regard to operations and usage of funds.

The New Vantage Group has 35 companies in its portfolio and 14 of which are funded through the Active Angel Investors Network. These companies include ATM National, Terracycle, Chesapeake Perl, Hardbikes, and Trusted Edge. The NVG head office is located in Vienna, Virginia.
