The Origin Investment Group, based in La Crosse, Wisconsin, is an LLC (limited liability company) established in 2001. It is an angel group supported by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Small Business Development Center or SBDC that intends to invest on existing businesses that lack funds for further operation but has a high level of viability and feasibility to succeed.
The SBDC is the one in-charge with the management of the investment group since its incorporation. And the basic functions of SBDC include coordinating meetings, records keeping and logistics. It also coordinates meetings with those who want to become members and/or investors. The group has monthly meetings that are usually held at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus for the review of proposals and investment discussions. And as a part of it's managing role, SBDC is also responsible for the coordination with those prospective businessmen who lack funds and also help them with their business presentation to the investment group.
The Origin Investment Group members and/or investors are usually established businessmen themselves. They not only provide investments to newly established businesses, but also provide beneficial advice to businessmen. For this purpose, they hold advisory meetings that SBDC also coordinates. The most recent of which was given to budding entrepreneurs from Western Wisconsin.
SBDC, on the other hand, is a joint partnership program with the U.S. Small Business Administration of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, whose primary aim is to help small scale entrepreneurs to face the never ending demands of running a business. It caters to almost all kinds of business owners or managers, and even to emerging or potential business owners.
SBDC offers one-on-one business advising for free and it also gives guides and information resources regarding business basics every entrepreneur ought to know. Examples of these are business start-up regulations, employment and training, business requirements with employee and others. It also facilitates various global entrepreneurship training programs to enhance one's knowledge and skills in handling a business. They also can provide in-house specialized training tailor cut to the specific needs of a company or department. You need not be enrolled at the university to avail of these resources and programs.
