The Bay Angels is an organization of private investors, industry professionals, business leaders, and seasoned entrepreneurs that supports early-stage technology companies in Southern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Cape Cod. Typical seed investment ranges from $100,000 to $500,000. Follow-on funding may be mediated by the network members using their syndicate groups based on the potential of each company.
What follows is a rundown of the group's investment criteria for aspiring start-up companies:

*A strong and competent management team with substantive experience in the company's target market
*Sustainable business growth and scalability
*Well-articulated marketing plans that will discuss how the company can increase its annual profits and revenues
*A plan on how the seed investment will be used to achieve initial milestones of the enterprise
*Ventures with unique advantage such as proprietary technology, patent, intellectual property, and easy market entry
*Entrepreneurs who are willing to be coached and given professional mentoring
*A well-defined exit strategy
Interested entrepreneurs are asked to fill out the application form available on the Bay Angels website and attach an executive summary of the proposal. Shortlisted ventures are contacted to submit necessary requirements and present in one of the group's dinner meetings. In this assembly, members determine whether due diligence is necessary or otherwise. Term sheet will be issued prior to the closing of deal.
Network members are accredited investors based on the guidelines specified by the US Securities and Exchange Commission. They are directly involved in the funding process and streamlining the deal flow in potential investments. In addition, they also share networks with fellow members to assist in subsequent funding of their portfolio companies and gain access to their resources. Aside from providing equity investment, members also guide their portfolio companies in management decisions, deal sourcing, marketing plans, and attracting venture capitalists.
Bay Angels' members meet every month to discuss investment status, future plans, membership, and administrative concerns. Primarily, members discuss the potential of each proposal and come up with plans on how to increase the return on their investments.
The Bay Angels is a charter member of the Angel Capital Association (ACA), North America's foremost alliance of angel groups that focuses on the development of angel investment across the United States and Canada.
