The Phenomenelle Angels is a group of accredited investors and seasoned entrepreneurs that focuses on women-managed and minority-owned enterprises in the Midwest region particularly in Wisconsin. The group is looking for early-stage companies and growing ventures that can create significant market opportunities to promote the growth of entrepreneurship in the region. Aside from seeking minority-led companies to leverage resources, the Phenomenelle Angels also requires at least a single woman holding an executive position or a cultural minority ownership before an enterprise gets qualified for an investment. Target industries include Communications, Consumer Goods and Services, Information Technology, and Life Science.
In relation, the Fund supports fast-growing minority companies with the following criteria:
*A competent and success-driven management team that can address market and consumer needs.
*Unique advantage such as proprietary technology, patent, brand, intellectual property, and strategies to easily penetrate target groups.
*Innovative products and services that cater to diverse and substantive markets.
*Marketing plans that can generate wide gross margins for at least a year.
*Strategies to achieve a $1M run rate and $50M sales and revenues within a five-year period.
In addition, ventures that are supported by other angel groups, venture capitalist firms, business partners, and private investors gain huge advantage in investment. The Phenomenelle Angels invests from $100,000 up to $500,000 in qualified enterprises. Follow-on funding requests are mediated through the group's strong network of syndicate groups as portfolio companies and members gain access to them as well. Moreover, its pool of resources is used to facilitate product development, marketing plans, profit-generating strategies, corporate management, recruitment, and deal closures.
The investment process starts from a referral submitted to the company. The executive summary is then reviewed and assessed by the Screening Committee which decides about the eligibility of each proposal. If the funding criteria are met, the group schedules an initial meeting with the senior executives to discuss market opportunities, financial projections, feasibility studies, and product requirements. Due diligence is conducted by the Committee as well. Once a company has passed the rigorous process, a representative (primarily the female or minority executive) is invited to present to the General Partners. Investment is determined through suffrage by the Limited Partners as the General Partners eventually negotiate the terms of agreement after a majority vote.
Since its launch, the Phenomenelle Angels has already closed two successful deals: iDc, a technology company that specializes in software development and web-based services and products, and TrafficCast International, an innovative provider of digital traffic services, travel time information, and everything related to traffic markets.
The Phenomenelle Angels Fund is managed by three of the most thriving companies in the country (the General Partners): the Press Room, the Midwest Venture Capital Managers, and the SCIO Corporation.
