The Sierra Angels is an angel investment organization established in Incline Village, Nevada. It is presently the leading investment group in the Northern Sierra region and a recipient of the Hans Severiens Award for angel capital leadership in 2005. This award is sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation and Angel Capital Association.
To date, the Sierra Angels has fifty accredited investor members who are credibly experienced in investment and company development. Membership to the investment group is invitational. Members are either entrepreneurs or business executives who have successful careers in various industries. These excellent qualifications of the members make up a highly efficient investment organization that not just provide monetary assistance to emerging companies, but guidance and mentoring as well.
Members involve themselves deeply with activities within the region to advocate entrepreneurial environment as a vehicle for economic advancement. They immerse themselves in community activities to further widen their connections with various institutions that support the group in realizing their goals and mission. Sierra Angels has formed affiliations with institutions like University of Nevada College of Engineering and College of Business Administration, Desert Research Institute, Research Ventures, Inc., UC Davis External Research Advisory Board, Sierra Nevada College, Nevada Technology Council, Nevada Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, and Golden Capital Network.
The group has funded a total of fifty companies since it started. It provides about $250,000 to $2 million worth of capital to companies located in Nevada or California. It also considers companies in other locations but largely prefers those in the Northern Sierra region. The Sierra Angels is likely to invest on companies that are geared toward technology. Companies should have a prospective market that is rapidly increasing, be able to generate an annual revenue worth $50 million or more, be market competitive, have products or services that are exclusive through property rights, have business plans that are feasible and realistic, have strategically formulated financial plans that project high returns of investment, have experienced management teams that are inclined to reaching success, and be open for guidance and mentoring. Interested parties may submit an executive summary not longer than four pages. Applicants may also browse through the investment group's website for further details on application submission and the preferred format of executive summary. Submissions can be done through electronic mail. A company should submit an application only once to the designated email address that pertains to its industry.
Sierra Angels Website
The Sierra Angels website is a very simple website that opens to a homepage that provides comprehensive information about the investment organization. It also shows the group's logo that showcases its nature and regional origin. The Sierra Angels logo comes with an image of a mountain that is imposed with a halo.
The Sierra Angels website presents profiles of the investment group, its members, and affiliates. Companies that are interested to be funded by the group can visit the "Entrepreneurs" tab in the website. The details of funding requirements are included in the page. There are four email addresses provided for application submission. Each are itemized according to the different industries of prospective companies. Companies can also download the format of the executive summary through a link on the "Entrepreneurs" tab.
The Sierra Angels website has also a "Portfolio Companies" tab. This page provides all the companies that the group has invested in. A link to each of their websites is also included. For the latest and past events or announcements about the Sierra Angels, the events and announcements and recent activities tabs have various links that lead to the website where the specific event is posted along with downloads of the relevant file. The website also has a "Media Articles" tab where news and press releases are provided through links. These links lead to a page where a copy of the specific news article can be viewed.
