Wilmington Investor Network is an angel investment group established in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Wilmington Investor Network seeks companies that can provide a substantial return of investment. They usually provide around $200,000 to $500,000 worth of first round investment. A company should be located within the eastern part of North and South Carolina to be able to qualify for funding. Although companies of other industries are also welcome, companies from the technology, biotechnology, or medical device industries are preferred. Prospective funding applicants should have a great potential for high return of investment, a management team that is rigid and determined to achieve market leadership, a strategically formulated business plan, and a technologically innovative product or service that is unique and has a competitive market edge.
A company that is interested to apply for funding should submit a business plan to one of the current members of the group or via the Network's electronic mail. If a company qualifies on the initial screening, they will be invited for a formal business presentation to the entire membership of the Wilmington Investor Network. Business presentations are usually held during the group's regular monthly meetings where two companies are chosen to present.
The members of the Wilmington Investor Network are experienced business executives and entrepreneurs of varied expertise and skills. Other members are also experienced capital investors who had largely successful investment deals. Being a member of the group entails an annual fee of $1,000. All members are entitled to make individual investment decisions on any potential company they are interested in. To qualify for membership, one should be an accredited investor in accordance to the guidelines and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States. Accredited investors have an individual or joint annual net worth of about $1 million or more, or an annual individual income of about $200,000 or more, or a joint annual income of $300,000 or more.
