The Houston Angel Network is an angel investment organization founded in 2001 at Houston, Texas. It operates as a non-profit organization of accredited investors who have joined efforts and efficiency in determining highly profitable investment deals on emerging companies based in Texas. To date, the group already has $10 million worth of investments on about thirty companies in the region with a total of fourteen investment deals made in 2006 alone. Some of the companies that the goup has funded are Assistant Coach Systems, Commerciant, DFJ Mercury, Fision, Mad Croc, MEDeCOACH, Sweet Leaf Tea, Tracy & Michael, Tympany, Organ Transport Systems, and Voyava. The group is also supported by various companies that provides their services for free or for a minimum amount of fee. Their valued company sponsors include Locke, Lidell & Sap; haynesboone; Panell Kerr Forster of Texas; Ernst & Young; Oracle; Phillips & Reiter; and Winstead Consulting Group.

Members of the Houston Angel Network are active participants in angel events and activities. They attend business presentations and perform evaluations of investment prospects, as well as grace social events to widen their network of business contacts. There are also available educational seminars for members to further advance their knowledge and skills on investment. The angel investment group members are all accredited investors and are respected professionals in the business community of Texas, and are vigorously involved in building investment related partnerships. Membership to the Houston Angel Network is by invitation and requires an annual membership fee. Those who are interested to join should contact the managing director, Mr. Kala Marathi, through telephone or electronic mail. All applications will be subjected to a screening process for qualification.

For funding applications, Texas-based companies should submit an application and executive summary through electronic mail. Companies can submit their own style of executive summary, although a sample format is available for download in the Houston Angel Network website. All applications received are subject to review and evaluation of the group members. A company that would meet the significant requirements, will be invited for a business presentation. Prior to the presentation, the company shall also be provided assistance in preparation for the final business presentation. The company's details and business plan will also have the opportunity to be posted on the group's website, exclusive for the members' review. Business presentations are usually held on the regular breakfast meetings of the investment group. If a company passes the business presentation screening stage, further evaluation process will be carried out for a probable investment deal in the offing.

The opening page of the Houston Angel Network website projects a summary of significant investment information. A short historical background is provided, as well as a brief run down of the benefits of membership, investment funding and sponsorship. The list of sponsors are also enumerated on the left-hand portion of the page. Membership overview, benefits, and profile are also available on the website through the membership tab. Another page in the tab provides the SEC-accredited investor requirements. Applications for membership can be forwarded to the executive director through an email address provided on the page. A telephone number is also included for other membership inquiries. On the other hand, a company that is interested to apply for funding can go to the entrepreneurs tab where an explanation of the application process can be found. A template for an executive summary format can also be downloaded through a link on the page. Funding applications can be submitted through an email address indicated on the same page.

The Houston Angel Network has already funded a lot of companies. Details about the group's investment accomplishments are also included in the website, as well as a list of the companies that they have funded. The websites of these companies can also be accessed through the links provided. The group gives great value to the companies that have supported it. For this purpose, a sponsors tab is included in the website. Sponsorship details and information are explained, and an email address and telephone number is included in the page for sponsorship inquiries. Another page in the sponsors tab presents the list of the company sponsors and the links to their websites. Further inquiries or comments, a contact tabbed page is available for the contact details of the managing director.
