The New World Angels is an angel investment group composed of members who are of valuable experience in management and operations, as well as establishing companies in various industries. As a group, the members work together in facilitating lucrative investment deals with companies in the early or middle stage of development within the South Florida area. To be able to achieve success in their endeavors, the New World Angels is provided with the help of other investment firms in various regions and throughout the nation. They are also supported by the Enterprise Development Corporation, Florida Atlantic University, and Florida International University.
The New World Angels' investments are not sourced-out from a fund but from individual commitments of their members. Members can make individual investment decisions as to what particular company they want to invest in. Although there is a minimum investment amount, members can still choose to invest more. It is also one of the responsibilities of a member to assist and closely monitor a company to assure the success of the investment. That is why it is very important that the members are relatively experienced and skilled to be able to fulfill this task. Accredited investors or business leaders and professionals who want to be a member of the New World Angels need to be endorsed by a current member, because membership is strictly invitational. All membership applications are reviewed and approved by the board of directors.
The amount of investment that the New World Angels provide ranges between $200,000 to $600,000. They prefer companies in the start-up stage located in the South Florida area. They choose to invest on companies within close proximity to maintain proper monitoring and mentoring. The group can either co-invest with other investment entities or be lead investors, provided that the nature of the company is within their field of skills and expertise. It is also important that a company has a highly viable business plan that includes all vital aspects of the business. The company should have a unique or highly innovative technology, product or service to offer, and that which will be able to gain a significant market edge. It should also have an advantage in market competition through rigid patents, property rights, and the like. The market size, on the other hand, should be able to generate significant amount of profits. The company should also provide terms and structure of investment that is efficient and appropriate to the investment group, as well as a realistic exit strategy.
Companies that are interested to apply for funding should submit a two to three-page executive summary to a member they are acquainted with or directly to the New World Angels via email. Companies that are selected on the initial screening will be invited for a ten-minute business presentation, followed by a ten-minute question and answer session on the group's regular monthly meeting. A company that can incite significant interest from the members will be further evaluated through a due diligence process. The due diligence team shall then present to the board of directors the prospective company's business proposal, as well as the terms and the investment amount to be offered for final approval. If a company is approved for investment, only then shall the final investment will take place.
New World Angels Website
The New World Angels website is very simple. It opens to a home page with the group's mission statement that also serves as a brief background about the group. On the same page is were the contact details are posted. It provides a postal address, email addresses and telephone numbers. The website also provides a member information tab. This is where the list of the names of the officers and directors, as well as some of the members of the investment group are posted.
For companies that are interested to apply for funding from the New World Angels can access the "submit a company" tab on the website. It provides an email link where applications, together with executive summaries, can be submitted. There is also a guideline for the contents of an executive summary. The website also provides a "members only" tab. This serves as a log-in page for current member investors. They can access the group's database of important investment information on the page through the use of a username and password. And for those who need details about funding application and requirements, investor application and requirements, or other important information, they can access the "FAQs" tab provided on the website.
The New World Angels website also provides a "reference documents" tab. This will be useful to companies who are planning to apply for funding because guidelines, templates and checklists for the necessary documents to be submitted can be downloaded from the page. The past and current news about the New World Angels are also provided in the website. This can be accessed through the "NWA News" tab.
